In Stabler's book he said Guy had the best arm on the team. He made a great grab on a bad snap by Todd Christensen in Super Bowl XVIII. He was a real football player.

I remember when the Heavy Fuel Crew used to have weekly segments with Christiansen, and after one segment where he was particularly pompous and smug, Mac wondered out loud if they should ever have that douche on again. I'm pretty sure they did not.

His final wish was to be buried in the coffin corner.

In his first book, John Madden told the story of Guy being totally pissed that Madden wasn't going to let him practice at safety during Guy's first training camp. Guy was a safety in college and he didn't see why he couldn't play safety in the NFL and still punt.

This wasn't that far from the era when several team's punters were either backup QB or backup TE.

There is a story from the infamous Bears Raiders bloodbath in 1984 that Guy was hiding on the sidelines because he was the third QB. Marc Wilson got pounded and left the game so it was David Humm then Guy at the QB position.

I never got the hate that many old time HOF voters had against him. Anti punter bias I get, but he was so special to push through that imho.

Yeah that was a close call for McMahon they thought he ruptured his kidney which would have been a career ender. There's a great book called "You're Ok Its Just a Bruise" and it opens with that game.

i think it was a 90-yarder and I want to say it was on 3rd down - a quick kick that rolled end-over-end forever. I remember it and hating randall cunningham.

my favorite game of all time was when the Bears took out so many Raider QBs that Ray Guy had to take snaps at the position
