Thing about these old tv shows is they seemed ubiquitous because of syndication, but in reality 8 is enough only ran a few seasons. Happy Days? One and done. Or maybe that was Joanie Loves Chachi. Same thing. Mork and Mindy, another Happy Days spin off, barely even appeared on prime time network TV. It's all the same handful of episodes running in syndication and nick at night or whatever.

Happy Days had 11 seasons and spawned like, half a dozen other shows.

I had a Fonzi t shirt.

I don't see anyone walking around now with a Sheldon t shirt

I always thought Brady Bunch was one of the big ones, in the sense that it wasn't popular or big at the time but became popular in syndication

Iirc they had to have three seasons in the can to hit the big money of syndication.

Yeah, I think that's right. You have to have enough product. But there used to be more shows per season too. Eventually 13 became the standard. Now shome of these "prestige" shows have six or seven. I think there are only 39 Honeymooners episodes.

With streaming you barely need more than a handful. I was watching BMF on Friday then realized that they repeated that episode twice more immediately thereafter. There are serious content problems now so it’s immediate reruns. Or as they call it now “rebroadcasts”

The honeymooners was just one season. Seems like it would have been more.

British shows often only do a couple of six episode seasons. The original The Office was 2 seasons or series in British tv parlance. Fleabag has gotten tons of mileage out of only 12 eps over 2 seasons. Spaced stretched one six episode season of content to two seasons. Psychoville started off with a strong first season then went off-the-rails in the 2nd and final season/series. Mr Jelly, a clown with a prosthetic/hook for a hand, the ostensible main character in Psychoville should've had more legs, but I haven't seen that character in anything since.

Peep Show ran too long, the season when Jez pisses himself in the church should've been the last season. But they had enough of the Seinfeld thing with Super Hans as sort of a drug-addled Kramer and Jez's various girlfriends and Mark's Costanza-lite work shenanigans to keep it going for more than 2 seasons.
