A sad day. He, Stills and Nash together are the definition Americana with their music.

At the end he knew that his time was coming and still he shared with fans. He never stopped making music.

God bless him for CSN and the Byrds.

Everyone light one up tonight for Croz!

Always found it odd that he was the sperm donor for Mellissa Etheridge. I looked it up last night and that child ended up dying from opioids back in 2020 at age 21. Kinda sad. Made Bob Dylan's "Mr Tambourine Man" a well known song and was the Byrds first #1 hit. Never really got into his music that much but pretty sure I would like it.

I consider him a Minor Byrd.

1. Gene Clark
2. McGuinn

Without McGuinn, no Rickenbacher sound, no famous Byrds songs, no Tom Petty.

I don’t know much about Stephen Stills personally, but out of the four in the group Graham Nash seems like the coolest dude and most chill. ( did dump his wife of like 40 years for some young chippy recently, though.)

Those guys are so proud of their shitty barbershop harmonies. CSN ain't what I call rock and roll. Young attempted to save them, but he could only do so much.

correct, its folk music

even in the 60s it wasnt rock

just a little more rocking version of Peter, Paul and Mary

it doesn't make it bad. I like Puff the Magic Dragon and I don't even smoke

Uh, Graham Nash is British.

Blues would be the true Americana genre.

Nash seemed the hanger on banging chicks in”our house”. I held stills as most talented.

nice to find a good music opinion. That's what these guys were. I love the Beach Boys, but they were in the same camp

Were those harmonies in the Byrds "barbershop", too, like in Turn, Turn, Turn and Mr. Tambourine Man?

A lot ignorant comments in this thread. When you achieve the success of CSN and the Byrds, then you can criticize.

I'm sure you can recognize the difference between the Byrds harmonies and what CSN did. And the Byrds were just fine without David Crosby.

I'm sorry you refuse to reckon with the fact that that dirty old hippie will never be as great as the Motor City Madman.

You won't ever hear better harmonies than on "Helplessly Hoping". I'm sorry if you don't feel that way.

As for Nugent, he doesn't really hold a candle to ZZ Top.

Probably true, at least for the early ZZ Top records before they remixed them and slapped all that echo on the drums. But we're not talking about who is better than The Nuge, we're discussing how much better The Nuge is than that filthy hippie David Crosby.

With all due respect, barbershop quartets don't cut it with their music because they have no melodies or not very good ones.

That's why songs like Helplessly Hoping and Teach Your Children are great because they do.

The Byrds' harmonies are different because they don't have Stills' and Nash' voices, which are unique. Particularly, Nash, has that hard-to-reach upper range. Nonetheless, the Byrds harmonies' are great in their own way, too.

The Byrds took Tambourine Man and made it completely their own. The guitar arrangement is much different than Dylan's and works much better.

The harmonies are different because the Byrds weren't singing in a tight barbershop style the way CSN did.

It's completely subjective so I'm not going to try to convince you about just how dreadful "Helplessly Hoping" and "Teach Your Children" are. I'll just say they suck.

For an example of just how brutal CSN were, just listen to Joni's version of "Woodstock." It's a completely emotional masterpiece and she allowed those goofs to ruin it with their shitty harmonies. Probably just because she was nailing all of them. I actually start laughing every time I hear it and it comes to the part where they go, "Hurda-Duh-Da-Da-Da-Da Da-Hurda-Duh-Da-Da-Da-Da-Da." It's like painting a clown nose on the Mona Lisa.

Ted Nugent is, was and always will be a no talent pos. Whether or not the peanut butter story is true (doubtful) it seems perfect for an assclown like him.

Nugent is a nut but he has some great songs and puts on a hellava show. Saying otherwise is just not correct.

Much like other acts that mix in their agenda (U2, Waters, Springsteen) you have to take what is good in Ted’s music and leave the rest. Of course, you don’t have to like his music at all but you shouldn’t do it because you dislike him and his political stuff.

There are a thousand acts I would miss out on if I had some sort of political measure for listening.

No, just like hair bands, punk rock and country music of the last forty years and current mumble rap, I can’t stand his noise either, never could.

Sure that's ok, but you can't say Nugent doesn't have talent. That's just wrong. The guy can/could wail and had some hits for a reason.

I hate Rush, but you'll never hear me disparage the musicians in that group.

There are a lot of talented people in this world that are also pieces of shit. Some of them vote Republican and play guitar. Others will run over somebody with their car at night after having played for the Saints in the afternoon.

Guys like you crack me up. Any failure to overlove guys like him is treated like a personal attack and you always want to find an ulterior motive. I was stuck listening to him in grammar school and I noticed two things: the volume and how crazy the concerts were. Nothing to suggest that his music was in any way shape or form memorable except for the volume. But I’ll go one further since you injected your opinion into the discussion, I think he’s like most musicians who had a few unmemorable songs who didn’t exhibit much talent. Regardless of genre. But especially in the noise category he exclusively resides in.

Just as I recognize that this is a subjective area, I wouldn’t expect you to have the same talent evaluations of all of the musicians I may like and frankly I’m not affected by your subjective view. Different strokes and all.

The Saints remark was amusing though, petty, but amusing
