Well I was just a kid and watched the tail end of his BHawks career but my older brothers sat me down and told me who to watch on the team and who was good. Him getting the puck and racing over the blue line to crank one up got people out of their seats ( much like Savard's end to end rushes in the 90's. )

Yep. I have fond memories being in the cloud of smoke in old Chicago Stadium, watching the Golden Jet standing behind his own net and picking up the puck and starting up ice. The SOUND of his skates as he winded his way up the ice as the fans started their roar as he crossed center ice and he started to bring his curved stick back and getting ready to shoot. Then he let his slap shot go and you waited for what happened next. Frequently it was a crash on the boards behind the net, sometimes some player would get knocked down to the ice, but once in awhile the puck would find its way to the back of the net and a great AHHHH would erupt in the Stadium.

Bobby was certainly not the best hockey player of all time but no one was more exciting to watch. He was SOMETHING.

So, one day my family went to the state fair. I broke away for a few minutes and got a beer and was sitting around watching the scenery when this guy comes over a sits down next to me. It was Bobby Hull. It was after he left the Hawks and went to the other league. We were just two guys having a beer so to speak. I told him, how I hated that he was leaving the BHawks. He just said that he couldn't afford to pass up the money. He also told me that he was a horse breeder and raced horses. He was down at the fair for the races. Nice guy. Wished him luck and shook hands with him. No autograph or nothing. I never was into that kind of stuff.

I didn't hear Bernstein's eulogy, but Spiegel's was a mixture of vitriol ("he was downright evil") and belated apology ("I should have stood up to Mac when he would say nice things about him. I will have to live with those decisions.") Jesus.
