You could have told me McCarver died two years ago, and I would have believed it.

He was great. And fun bad.

Burrito Bob would rather have someone like Matt Vasgersian

He should have gone to a hospital.

My opinion.

Aside from the great Deion, I never quite got the vitriol for the guy. He was simply middle of the road, which shouldn't draw the hate he got imo.

You're right but it grew into a life of its own.

And it was often driven by wannabe pbp guys who seemed jealous.

It was mostly Score driven. He didn't seem like a bad guy or analyst but Boers and McNeil disliked him so that was all that mattered.

McCarver was a Mets guy (I know, weird) who got elevated to national play-by-play when CBS got the national rights, and everyone hated what CBS did with baseball. Then he got put with Joe Buck on Fox, and everyone hated what Fox did with baseball. Like you said, there's no dearth of analysts who'd be like "now the thing you want to do here in a situation like this with two outs and two strikes is throw another one for strike three, because if you do that, that'll get you out of the inning, which is important, because that gives you a chance to bat," but he was the most prominent, and pretty much synonymous with MLB coverage that didn't know what the hell it was doing.
