just saw this thread. Thanks guys, really appreciate it. Been a rough month for the family, but now just focused on taking care of my mom. They were married 58 years. It's a good thing my mom lives 3 miles from me so I'm able to go over there frequently.

My dad was a legend. Grew up dirt poor on the west side. so poor that to his dying day he never learned how to ride a bike or swim. One of the last jews to leave, he attended Marshall High School for a couple years before ending up at Sullivan. Was friends with big George Wilson, the first Chicago basketball superstar who led Marshall to the first state championship in Chicago history.

He worked his way through college at Roosevelt and UIC Navy Pier before attending DePaul law.

Opened his own firm as a side gig while working days doing insurance defense. Used to go in at night to his tiny rented office and do all his work for his private practice. Did that for years until he was doing well enough to go full time at his own firm. that firm became Orzoff Law Offices which is now run by me and my brother.

A lifelong Sox fan and a former semi-pro pitcher, he loved baseball. At age 70 he started going to white sox fantasy camp and was hugely popular amongst the coaches and other campers. Some of the former Sox players couldn't pronounce his last name so they started calling him "Ovie" and that name stuck with him through all 4 years he attended the fantasy camp. Was even named camp MVP one session after batting over .300 for the week and helping his team win the camp championship.

He left me some big shoes to fill.

That’s a nice write up shakes. Your old man was pretty impressive. My condolences.

Good to know there are some real ppl on here and not just mults.

Which begs me to ask - why are you on this message board? You seem legit and successful.

The board is mainly for losers like ***** and ******** and could shoulda woulda beens like myself.

Shouldn’t you be on the espn sports forums or some high traffic message board? IMO this is too low bar for a guy of your stature.

Indeed, quite a life well-lived. Take care of your mother, that's an incredible void after so many years.

Mostly men here, so I'll share these thoughts, (And I have mean no disrespect for the purpose of this thread focusing on Shakes Dad...perhaps I should've started a new thread)

but, you go through a lot with your father as time wears on

didn't think that much of my dad when I was growing up,
high school, hated him
college, started to get his humor
had kids, appreciated his patience...further appreciation for what he sacrificed for me and my siblings
mom went through Alzheimers...we struggled and quarreled as he tried to maintain control over an uncontrolable situation
mom passes, we become closer than ever...he lives to 90 and I think of him pretty much every day

So again Shakes very sorry for your loss...men need to understand their relationship with their dads so they don't screw up their sons...sounds like your fam had it together
