I was initially surprised he made it onto all of those Red Sox leader boards, but he stuck around a very long time.

Brain cancer, but not an astroturf player; brain cancer has hit a lot of Phils and Royals who played half+ their games on turf in the sun.

Charlie Hough is alive

This is where I tell my Charlie Hough story.

My dad and a few of his friends who were old uncircumsized guys had a stupid handshake they would do that was like pinkie swearing or the way little kids make a bet. It would be accompanied by stating, "It's still there, brother!"

One of those friends was a guy named Ron Zera who ran the visitors' clubhouse at Wrigley Field. When Hough was with the Dodgers, Zera happened to glance at him after he got out of the shower and saw his uncircumsized junk. When Charlie was dressed, Ronnie showed him the handshake. Stupid as it was, Hough found it hilarious. He just loved it.

Years later, when Hough was with the Rangers he went to a dinner and injured his right pinkie performing a "secret club handshake" with a judge.

Just brutal.
Quote:
Stacy Wakefield, the wife of former Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer, the Red Sox announced.

“It is with deep sadness that we share that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt, Stacy, passed away today at her home in Massachusetts,” the family said in a statement.

“She was surrounded by her family and dear friends, as well as her wonderful caretakers and nurses. The loss is unimaginable, especially in the wake of losing Tim just under five months ago. Our hearts are beyond broken.”

Saw this and thought about how tough that is for their two kids. The son was born in 2004 and daughter in 2005. :(
