sad to hear, associated his late night show with julie swieca. energy.

wscr gave him an opportunity to work and earn money over 30 years ago. had to remember this, because today i'm being told that there were zero job opportunities for minorities in the field - even 5 years ago.

rip.

The one and only time I ever called into the Score was on his show. :(

I liked Tommy. He sucked at radio but seemed like a good guy, which is an acceptable combination for night shifts on sports radio.

Remember when Sir kissed his ass while they worked together and then stabbed him in the back the day after he left?

One of the all-time WSCR moments was Tommy interrupting his show to inform listeners of the death of F1 driver Ayrton Senna. I wish I could find a link to it.

Tommy's show was before my time here but I do remember Leery going back and getting his shots in years later.

Really sorry to read this. I know all the smug “smart radio” experts will disagree but hosts like Tommy Williams is what the score is desperately missing now, in my opinion. They have gone all-in on the clones with clone opinions and it is what it is, but I sure miss those earlier times.

I'm very surprised he was only 67. He sounded like he was in his 60s during the late 90s.

He seemed like a very nice man.

Yep. I remember that. It was a transition with B&B. Larry basically called him an "Uncle Tom" shortly after T-Dub was shown the door. Didn't use that term but that's what he was saying. What we have come to learn about Larry and his views on race/race relations, I absolutely believe T-Dub was a great guy.

You ever wonder what SCORE people really think of Larry? Trust me. It's the same as what this board thinks of him.

I believe he was between Les' overnight Score stints. Decent show. Highly Bulls themed. Had a likeable unpolished happy go lucky lively approach in sharp contrast to Les' robotic scaredy cat style with telling staled stories as filler. Got prank called a lot. Was mocked quite a bit by the day hosts as beneath them.

He was like night and day compared to the Score current vile trash hosts.

Back when this board used to be heavily populated by guests who worked at the station, someone detailed how Sir desperately wanted to hang with cool kids like Goff and drinky. He had a party where they gave him a courtesy hour of their time and bolted. Now Goff pretends they are best friends because they commiserate about the world being against them together. If Goff ever got a big break, he wouldn't know who Sir was.

I remember him as weekend host in '94 always hyping the upcoming Super Bowl as "X-X-I-X in Joe Robbie Stadium!"

I was pissed when he replaced Les after All-Star Press Pass-gate in 2001 but then like a year and a half later he too was exiled from the Score and they were doing a show together on Saturday mornings on WMVP.

He was exceedingly kind, and anything but an Uncle Tom.

He stood up to Mike North and Jiggets, when no one else would, and got a gig hosting because of his courage to do that.

What did he stand up to North and Jiggets about?

Mike liked to have fun at the expense of others.

Tommy had a crush on the receptionist, Martha. Mike wanted to set him up with her. Tommy declined his "help." Mike brings it up on the air one day, and Tommy declines again. Begs Mike to let it go. Mike calls the front desk anyway, live on the air and gets Martha on the phone.

Martha says thank you, but she isn't interested in dating Tommy. Who is now left humiliated privately, and now publicly. Tommy marches into Ron Gleason's office and tells him he won't work with the Monsters anymore. Instead of being contrite, Mike basically says fuck him, we will move along without Tommy on the show anymore.

Gleason calls Tommy back in and says because he quit the show, he will now be considered a part time employee, which means he will be losing health and pension benefits. Tommy ain't having it.

He goes over Gleason's head to a guy named Ron Suber, who most of you have never heard of. He told Gleason to find him a spot. And Tommy began hosting shows more regularly.

Anyone remember the show he did that was supposed to emulate dudes shooting the shit in a barbershop? I believe a young Larry cohosted or produced.

He’d have like three callers on the air at the same time. Unlistenable but an interesting concept.

Terry had a problem with everyone, including listeners, but for some reason he is remembered as a saint.

We always heard that Terry may have seemed like a jerk but this was actually because he had the truest moral compass of anyone and it was everyone he didn’t like who was the real jerk. I've gotten kind of tired of this archetype as I've gotten older, i think. Having been one myself, the Principled Asshole belongs in high school.
