Played many games there in the 90's. Sad!

They can use the space to distribute meals to hungry kids.

I'm sure the smell will live on. One of the stinkiest and coldest rinks in our area. Still a little sad though.

Lovely eulogy. Very poetic.

You ever been in it? Picture a tin shed and roof lined with torn mylar sheets on the ceiling. I don't think it's heated. The rink stink and zamboni as blackhawksfan said could knock you over. Still it's where my son learned to skate and had few games there. The ice was pretty bad.

I hadn't really been to a rink in awhile. We went to Center Ice over Christmas break and whoo that's another one. So stinky. I miss it a little. Time goes by quick.

Most of the WI rinks I have been to don't smell terrible unless they all smell terrible and I just am used to it. I've only been to a few IL rinks and they were all decent. We had a tournament at Top Shelf in Gurnee Mills this weekend and that was fine.

In my playing, albeit before the French and Indian War, it was the atrocious locker room smell or right on the bench. The rink itself was smelly?

The locker rooms only smell on Monday after the beer league destroys them and every trash in the building the night before. The kids are also still young enough that they bring all the gear home after every game or practice so the locker rooms are just benches and empty walls. The high school ones might smell like shit were they leave everything there.

I remember playing in my twenties at Southwest or Spectrum Ice Arenas and the locker rooms smelled equipment or not. Probably soaked into the padded flooring.

Centennial in Wilmette is close to 50 years old now. I can't imagine what it is like inside these days.

Maybe that is where Hossa caught his fungus or whatever it was that forced his retirement?

what about Homewood-Flossmoor Ice Arena? also like 50 years old and I'm kind of surprised it's even open anymore given that like 5 white people under the age of 60 live in a 10 mile radius these days

I'm in that area all the time. Mostly hard working middle class Americans. Maybe they're playing hockey. I'll ask around.
