Mike did his job today by shocking me. (Is that his job - to create a stir?)

from 8/22/07 -
"I won't read Tony Dungy's book "Winning in Life" because he is not a winner with his son committing suicide. That's a loser who can't keep his son alive."

That's a tough statement to make, and I am shocked by it.

if he really said that he goes from a stupid radio jock to making mean spirited repulsive comments. There is no way even KS could possibly justify that.

And in typical North style - heck, in typical WSCR style - this will always be said behind someones back, never face to face or on the air with the victim of the back-stabbing. To steal a quote from Ditka: "Losers & Cowards." Robert Feder out. feder@suntimes.com

That is astonishing. Teflon boy is off provoking angry thoughts again. Must be trolling for new listeners.

I'd love to get Keeping Score's thoughts on his hero's dumbass comment.

As for North, I won't be listening to his show for a long time now...and it was becoming a nice diverson from the Mike and Mike crapfest early in the morning.

Only a pathetic fool would say what he said.

Secondly, he probably can't read this book, or any other book. I'm sure it contains too many big words for the moron to get through. What a loser.

Well, at least he didn't call Dungey a bitch. That would have been out of line.

Someone needs to let mike's buddy jessie jackson know about this quote. also let any black athlete know so they won't go on north's show. and if north denies that he said it, will this tape vanish also?

Yep, I also heard him say. So according to him, he shouldn't be a Time 100 most influential man of the year because he didn't prevent his son from committing suicide.

This thread takes the comment made by Mike completely out of context. Listening is a skill, gents.

He questioned Dungy's capacity to evaluate priorities. As a man with head coaching position in the NFL, Dungy is acutely aware of the enormous investment of time that it requires. Some of that time, in Mike's opinion, would have been better spent guiding and raising children. Because Dungy took the job that effectively made him less available to his family than the facts and circumstances surrounding the latter required, his credibility to offer life advise (which the book is about) is questionable at best. So, there's the context.

Now north is an expert on raising kids huh? Or he knows in full detail that dungy was a bad father because he was a football coach? but his buddy coach ditka (or ex-buddy) is a good father cause none of his kids killed himself.

Let me just say...

There is no context in which that is an acceptable remark. My choice to ignore this show is justified every time I happen to look at this section.

True. However, he did call a UIC student a "stupid bitch" this morning during another stellar edition of "Mike's Rants". My co-worker's car radio may have to go missing soon.

If North feels that way about Dungy, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. It's obviously a ridiculous position, and North seems to be full of those.

Exactly. No way Dungy could give good advise, as he was busy wit' the Colts. Dat's like havin' someone who never has taken and played a pro sport host a morning drive time sports radio show and say what the Sox/Cubs/Bears/Bulls should do.

Waitaminit. Don't bring logic into a Mike North discussion.

I find Tony Dungy unpalatable b/c of his extreme religious and homophobic views. He's entitled to them, of course, but I think he believes that the Colts were chosen by God to win the Super Bowl last year. That notion is ridiculous. Anyone want to argue to the contrary?

I wonder how it must feel for the closeted homosexuals and non-Christians on the Colts' team to know how their coach feels about them.

Woodridge Ryan? Your thoughts?

I'm not going to comment on whether Dungy is homephobe or not - I really don't know what he's been quoted as saying in the past, and I don't really care..

He's a good football coach, but I don't think he should be on the list of Top 100 Most Influential or whatever he got.
