When did Parkins drive over him?

The day Mac’s firing was announced, when Parkins first hit the air. I don’t have quotes handy as the podcast from that segment was pulled, but the gist is that Parkins—in my opinion—sold Mac out and didn’t show a shred of loyalty to his supposed “radio father.”

Parkins took it as an opportunity to show how “virtuous” he was.

I think he showed some loyalty. I thought the problem was that he said something along the lines of "sometimes people we love do things that we hate", as if Mac's post were some dispicable crime

He vociferously defended someone he doesnt know 100x harder than he did his radio partner . Of course going to bat for Shefter was the easy move after seeing that everyone else was panning that article. I dont remember him going on a 15 minute rant about cancel culture, how people need to be able to take a joke , about the state of discourse in the country after his radio partner got fired for the exact same thing .

I've been paying attention minimal, as opposed to not at all previously, and haven't seen anyone else sporting the bare shoulders, all leather look of Taylor. I wonder how many of the sideline ladies quietly agreed with Mac's sentiments.

Not sure about the NFL, but Doris Burke did the NBA Finals in a thong.

If Mac is involved in any type of litigation or contractual negotiations related to his termination...he ain't sayin' shit.

My thing is Parkins framed the whole thing in a way that would result in him, meaning Parkins, coming out the other end looking like the guy “on the right side of history.”

That was clearly Parkins goal. To look like he was getting it right.

Imagine if Mac had made that comment at score house, every dude in that room would have laughed and possibly added on to the joke. I understand that doesn’t make it a good idea to Tweet out publicly, but like you said, the idea that what Mac said was worth “hating” was completely disingenuous by Parkins and Parkins knows that.

He acted like he was in self-preservation mode but he didn’t need to be.

Oh well.

agreed

He was able to read the room.

We need to be treating women equally in the workplace unless it comes to making jokes. Boers can tell Zaidman on the number 1 sports radio show on a 50,000 watt radio station that he wasnt born with the gift of face. Does he tell Peggy Kusinski that ?

Well personally I never saw anyone mock Craig Sager's sideline outfits.

People used to laugh at his outfits in the eighties. I still remember laughing every time I'd pass the places where he bought his suits and clothes that made him look like a 1970s movie pimp.

I was at Dan's a couple weeks ago and we talked about it and I opined as you have here, that his firing may well have been partially motivated by a desire to trim payroll, which he said was a possibility that also occurred to him. You will be treated to his take on his firing and a whole lot more very soon.

Wrong. I just can't say how it's all coming out. I don't want to betray his trust. Though he didn't ask me not to say anything, I suspect it might be a faux pas. But I did suggest the title Closing Time. But I think Dangerous talk was leading and the deadline was I believe today, for the publisher.

Well...Elmhurst Steve with a button 48 moment...glad you were with him and talked to him.

You may have talked to him, but publicly...he's been silent. If he's negotiating his exit (contractually) or having any legal action...he will have to be publicly silent. He has been publicly silent, despite you talking to him.

I need to find a copy of that drop.

I wasn't there for a social visit, but to do some work on his home, as he is planning to put the house on the market. I was there a couple days and we talked quite a bit. He doesn't see himself working on a full time basis anymore, but would like something perhaps like Hub Arkush does, during Football season. The book will likely make getting back in any regular capacity tougher, so that shows that he is serious about stepping away permanently. He was one of the guys who built the Score and in my opinion one of the best sports talkers ever in Chicago. I look forward to buying the book as soon as its available.

I never work for free, except for my Son. Who just bought his first house, which is really exciting. I don't work at a discounted rate either. In fact, Mac has always paid not just paid in full, but tipped extra. If Mac never works in radio again, or if he never did. I would continue doing work for Dan and Sheri, because they are just good people.

Good. The next time you're at Mac's house, Elmhurst Steve, I want you to take a picture, with Mac, with that days newspaper to prove sign of life.

Then I want you to steal something from the house. I don't know, I remember he said he has lots of helmets of Big Ten college teams in his basement. Take one of those. Take the Illinois helmet. He won't miss it.

That's an order, Elmhurst Steve.

From, "I don't want to say much about what he told me" to "OK here's everything he's thinking of doing and what he wants and also he's selling his house" in like, what, 6 hours? Some confidant.

I don't buy the theory of "They fired him to save money".

Because they just signed him recently before they fired him. I think a few months before they fired him.

Granted, the COVID shit might have changed things and they figured that's a way to get out of the money. So I guess it is plausible.

I met Dan, Jiggets, North, Boers, Sharon and Wolf all when they were just doing dry run broadcasts at the Score when they were on Belmont Ave and I was painting and wallpapering the place for Danny Lee....the original owner of the station. I wound up doing work for Jiggets at his house in Long Grove on the Royal Melbourne golf course. Played golf with his friend John Rios, who also lived in the community there. I worked for North at his house in Park Ridge doing wallpapering for Bee and quite a bit of work over the years for Mac. We have golfed together several times, including in his foursome last year at 7 Bridges. If you look at the pictures with Olin , Wanny and all the other celebs that were taken with each group....you will see me right there.. we have golfed together with Viking Bobby and3 putt Gene amongst those old Score listeners might be familiar with. Mac is just an unpretentious guy, who didn't see himself as being too good to socialize with listeners he got to know.
