Barry attempting to be funny (hint- he's not). The show is off the rails early with their discussion on Bears potential QB's for the 2017 season.

It's going to be awful. I will listen so that you don't have to.

Has anyone ever mentioned to him that signing McGowan and letting Jay walk would have been the correct move in retrospect?

It would have been a different move, not sure if it would have been a correct one.

Hahn is certainly talking the part. He sounded good in that interview.

Do you think their record would have been any worse the past few seasons?

The correct move was realizing Cutler was not the franchise QB a few years ago and starting to find the replacement. I guess they could have signed McNown but the corresponding move to get a young QB is really what is important here.

The single correct move would have been to not hire Emery or Trestman.

Listened to 30 minutes of Israeli baseball during my lunch break. Rozner's nasally voice is as annoying as his lame jokes.

They keep fighting over the value of the World Baseball Classic. And yeah, and unhealthy obsession with Jewish athletes. Rozner is nails on a chalkboard.

He did make a fat joke earlier that I am sure JDC did not appreciate.

As you wrote later, it would have ushered in a new era, which they are now finally getting to several years later.

Wonder if Barry approached Greg Maddux about pitching for the Israeli team? Did you guys know they are friends?

Rozner is much better when:
a) He has to stick to baseball,
b) He has serious guests, like beat writers or higher level MLB people, and
b) He has no co-host to try and make jokes.

I listened for much of his Sunday show. He was fine.

I put on 3 minutes with purple while I was driving to the airport, and it was a damned train wreck.

Jays contract made that pretty much impossible. You can't pay that much money and have Jay not start. It also makes it hard to draft one in a high round because you only sign that contract if your plan is to win now and since you can't play two quarterbacks you can never see value from that high pick.

Rozner has a grating personality. It comes through clearly on the radio, and you pick up the same thing up if you read his columns consistently.

He's like Rosenbloom in that, when you hear him once a week you might get fooled into thinking he would be great as a daily host. When you hear him daily you will be kicking yourself for having that thought.

Yeah.. They both have the tendency to beat a joke into the ground. The first time you hear it you kind of chuckle maybe but then after the 50th time you get to the point that its like nails on a chalkboard. And that's only the first hour.

In his columns, he used to write, "I'll hang up and wait for my aneurysm". It got old really fast.

We he was filling in for Boers last year, Rozner did this long rant on how it doesn't matter where you go to college. You could tell it was annoying Dan. Barry has these quirks that make him unsuitable to Bernstein. He's too low rent, and while he was a good soldier for the Patrick Kane news, Rozner did not kneel with Kaepernick enough.

If college doesn't matter how come all the hosts have degrees from Syracuse or Duke and all the update jobs go to those who graduated from the Illinois School of Broadcasting?

 That's something guys who went to schools with directions or "State" in their names say. Nobody who attended Harvard or Yale ever says that.

I believe he dropped out before they kicked him out. I thought he painted it as some kind of protest against a teacher.

Exactly.

Take a clever idea, and then beat it into the ground until listeners turn the dial.

Barry blocked me on Twitter for responding to a "The plan still sucks" tweet he made last year. I responded that his joke wasn't funny after hearing it 150 times. He's a sensitive fella

Most guys in sports media, at least those I have heard locally on the radio, are pretty thin skinned despite the fact that they tend to take a lot of shots are people themselves. A lot of former and current guys at WSCR come to mind like McNeil, Boers, Murph, North, Spiegel, and Holmes. Silvy is pretty thick skinned but he usually doesn't take as many shots, cheap or otherwise, at people.

Barry got pissed when I used to e-mail him. He accused me of being Lovie's relative. Then he asked me if I hated him because he scored a goal on me.

Barry is a good writer. Where he fails is in pounding the same topics over and over again. Also, when he dislikes an athlete, owner, or GM, he is unable to recognize when that person does something good.

So let me give you a hypothetical example- Let's assume Barry hates Ryan Pace. He'll rip Pace for certain free agent moves and draft picks. Then if you were to counter, well he drafted Jordan Howard, he would just attribute that to luck. Well, luck works both ways. Like the Bears were unlucky with Kevin White. They got lucky with Howard. So when they do something good, it's luck, and when they do something bad, they're stupid.

That was his entire theme with Lovie Smith. I kept trying to figure out how Lovie was "lucky" with all the turnovers. Barry would say, well the other team handed the Bears the ball or threw it right at their defenders. Lovie's entire defensive system was a bend don't break with an emphasis on creating turnovers. It was the best part of Lovie's coaching. It wasn't luck at all.
