Listening now. they have put some good early north clips on. pretty funny. Jamomere Jaguar! LOL!

Too bad it didnt last.

Am I bad to have a soft spot for Mike North? I know he imploded but for a short time there, he and Jiggs were not just entertaining to listen to , but they were the hottest thing going.

North says he's done fighting w/ the white sox. What was that about?

Spiegal asked about regrets. about the podcast. who left steady jobs for the webio.

i remember now. he got in bed w/ some crook who stole all the money. people got hurt and lost a lot of money. regular guys. thought north was stupid to get into bed w/ the crook. now he's making excuses that it wasn't his fault.

if you knew north's gambling history, would anyone with a sane mind get in business with this guy?

he made 1.5 at the score. but they asked him to take half.

Yeah this was the biggest part of the ego not understanding it wasn't about him, it was about radio in general. You can go back 20 years and find 6 to 7 guys making 7 figures in radio in Chicago, but the medium is dying off. They have to be willing to give up money to stay on, and really, there aren't any other options. The money just isn't there to pay guys anymore. I don't follow the radio buisness enough to know how long people have contracts for, but I'm guessing when Bernstein is up for renewal, he'll have to take a cut -- he doesn't work nearly as much with the Cubs games on, and they get beat all the other times by the other station in town. All of these free podcasts don't help radio's cause... if they are willing to do it free week after week (or daily, in some cases) or even at reduced salaries, the market has to correct. Same thing happening with porn studios, can't compete when people will release stuff for free or nearly free. The internet and the capability to broadcast watchable video/listenable audio is really disrupting the market and has been for a while.

North had 50 advertisers for his podcast. He invented making money on podcasts.

He must have been pretty proud of that or trying to justify why he was doing a podcast. He mentioned it many times.

If North said yes to 750k, i wonder what score management would have done. they didnt want him and knew he wouldn't take half. he should have taken it and messed w/ them.

i totally forgot about the fraud the webio was. North sounded all innocent on the show. Not sure if I buy that. The host said a lot of ppl quit their steady jobs to take a chance on webio. I think George Offman was one if I recall.

I wonder if North's ego is a bit hurt that he doesnt get a retirement show like Terry got. Thats why he is going all over the media announcing this.

Terry received a farewell show because he was still employed with WSCR.

North is right about one thing - if he was in on the podcast scam the FBI would have busted down his door and RICCO'd pappyland. At the end of the day, the victims were adults and can't blame North for their bad choice. Greed is the drug that hurts us all. "If it sounds too good to be true......"

Mike was recruiting talent to the station and Bee Bee actually had some kind of significant management position. The industry was imploding, the economy had tanked and people were desperate. They grabbed onto a life preserver. They were all adults and had a responsibility to investigate but they were being recruited to the business by a trusted friend.

Bebe was the Chief Operating Officer. It's a miracle they didn't lose everything as a corporate officer taking on personal liability for commission of a fraud - unless it was a title and not a position.

I suppose they would or did argue that she was merely negligent rather than intentionally committing a fraud but it's still pretty fortunate.

I always had a feeling that North and BeBe made some deal with the feds to ensure they were untouched. It would make sense to. Unfortunately, being a rat would go against his whole persona.
