Spiegel thinks Ted Philips and George McCaskey should not have been involved in the press conference yesterday and even though Parkins initially said the same, he now thinks it's OK.

Spiegel doesn't understand why Parkins seems to be making excuses for Bears management.

Spiegel on Philips' involvement: "This reinforces a truth that we have all known for a long time."

Yeah I just heard that . It’s great seeing a host give another host the 670 treatment . Parking is going off the 670 playbook. He’s basically telling Meat “ WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE” and making Meat look like a child and of course Spiegs is being petulant now

They're doing their Cover 3 segment or whatever, and the guest from Philly knows Parkins, and the last question to him (asked by Parkins) was about how involved the President and Owner might be in a coaching search with the GM, and the guy was in lockstep with Parkins (it's not uncommon for the President to be involved), and Spiegel was so incredibly pissed off: "I like the use of the close personal friend on this segment to argue perfectly your side of the debate, but that's OK".

I knew that was going to happen when Parkins introduced him as a friend.

I was wondering why Parkins was rooting so hard for Clemson to beat Alabama. I didn't know until today that his wife went to Clemson.

 what would their friendship have to do with answering the question ? Does that idiot think Parkins called this up earlier to make sure he was in lockstep with him?

Spiegel is a baby. However, he is correct about the Phillips issue.

Im my mind, the issue isn't whether the President/owner of the team should be involved but rather that the President and owner in question are so monumentally bad that they shouldn't be anywhere near a football team.

If I were Philips I would have been there and said I am the president. Go fuck yourselves and now Pace will speak.

With 31 NFL teams, it would probably not be an issue to have the President and/or owner involved with the hiring of a new coach.

With the Bears, it is his HUGE problem because since 1983, this regime has gotten two of their six coaching hires correct.

The same owner and team president wanted to put a coaching candidate through a mock press conference in the interview. This was, I think, laughed at the league over, especially considering the coaching candidate was reigning COTY. That is why they shouldn't be in the room.

Yeah. I totally agree that Spiegel is being petulant and also agree with Parkins that this would be normal protocol for the most of the rest of the league. Unfortunately that justification absolutely should not apply to the Bears and Ted. I agree that it would generally be totally normal for a president to be involved in a coaching search, but not when that president has demonstrated no football competence whatsoever and not when there are constant conflicting reports about how hands on or off he is. If this was a "normal" franchise Ted would have been shitcanned ages ago or at least forced to bring in someone with an actual football background.

Parkins said he lost a large sum of money on Clemson last night, but not as much as he lost on Hillary in November 2016.

Yes. It's not that a president should not be involved...it's that THIS president should not be involved. The only reason Phillips even has the title is because Michael McCaskey humiliated the organization with the Dave McInnis fiasco and Phillips was a trusted lackey to be made the figurehead.

Yes, and the more recent issue is that the excuse for Pace was that he didn't really want Fox and it was instead forced upon him. Every potential coach will know that and now the two that overruled the GM will be actively involved in interviewing so it's basically the exact same setup that was not only a failure, but also an excuse for the GM who likely isn't good either.

You'd have to be desperate to sign up to coach for the Bears right now. Even if you think there is good young talent why would you choose to join up with this terrible power structure?

It is only one of 32 NFL head coaching jobs in the world. Yes, guys will sign up for it.
