The call with Ron Kittle was good. Kittle was pro-LaRussa and also not a fan of bat flipping (his example of .220 hitters bat flipping after a HR was funny). Parkins, who believes bat flipping is one of the greatest things ever and obviously anyone who doesn’t must be racist, was definitely taken aback by this & the pro-LaRussa stance.

The instant the call was over Parkins went right to some comments from the text line to validate his stance. Obviously he did not want Kittle on the line for this as some of the comments knocked him (“you’re talking to a dinosaur about a dinosaur”). Seemed rather petty of Parkins though not surprising.

Seems that the text line is the second coming of Kenny Owens.

Deaden the ball would have a bigger impact. Removing shift would just encourage the pull attempts. Yes, you’d have more balls get through but people would still try to hit the hall 500 feet

One of the ways to combat the analytics would be to go against tendencies and slap the ball the other way against the shift...but that requires career .230 hitters with .240 OBPs to rethink their approach.

I don’t think players in the league have the ability, frankly.

Which I used to think shocking but it must be so.

I’m pretty stubborn in my belief that eliminating the shift is the least drastic and most realistic option baseball has in combatting analytics.

While it would have an impact there were people extolling the glory of Adam Dunn as the first true three outcome player before the shift became as prevelant. If we don’t have 180 pound guys hitting the balk 450 feet it would be easier to convince middle infielders that being an on base doubles hitter wasn’t a sin.

Moving home plate back and/or lengthening the fences. Or raising the mound.

Those are drastic options IMO.

Indeed.

Raising the mound would certainly be interesting with all these relievers throwing gas

Both the Giants and Mets have brought the fences in in recent years. MLB should have told them no.

Raise the mound two inches, and the K/BB ratio will change so that Three True Outcomes hitters will fare worse than contact hitters, especially when stacked together in a lineup.

But the biggest thing is that a generation of single-dimensional players have been taught that contact is bad unless it at a superior launch angle, and that launch angle is based on being a pull hitter. And that it's too hard to string together two singles and a sacrifice fly in a row.

Edgar Martinez would have 4000 hits if he was playing in this generation.

Watching the approach at the plate that guys like Dunn and Schwarber take offends the baseball sensibilities of anyone that grew up playing the team oriented game it used to be many years ago. There are many times, early in games that Schwarber has come up with a runner on third with less than two outs, all he has to do is put the ball in play to score the run, but almost always ends up waiving at three eye high fastballs, leaving the runner stranded, this approach is prevalent throughout the Cubs lineup and leads to them scoring almost no runs unless the homer. Bad, unwatchable baseball for those that know the game, a runner trying to score on a sac fly is one of the more exciting plays, but the slow pitch softball, station to station approach makes me choose not to watch Cubs baseball.

Schwarber is garbage, 75% of the time the first pitch is the best pitch he'll see and he watches a meatball fastball go by .then starts swinging at shit.

It’s been proven 3 years in a row this cubs roster can’t catch up to high velocity.
