Claw, I'm not objecting to your tastes in radio. What I'm objecting to (and I recognize you're not the only person posting these things on this site) is the wringing of hands and rending of garments over a show that has been off the air for circa 25 years. We live in a period of time where we're spoiled for content. You're really only limited by your imagination. If you don't like the Score, find something you like, it's all at your fingertips.

Also, I read your posts. You have other interests and some interesting takes. I'd much rather read about those, than some long dead sports radio show.

Most of that content is amateurs, who had the money to buy a microphone and lighting to podcast their thoughts from a basement because the family above wouldn't listen. There is a dearth of podcasters/broadcasters who entertain, even for the 1 hour a week they produce.

I consume things like Hoge and Jahns for some Bears insight and they have difficulty filling their hour with Bears news and a dash of entertainment. Those CHGO are universally painful products. Barstool is supposed to be the big dog in this medium and its near impossible to stick with their shows for more than fifteen minutes.

Find myself hitting the fast forward button often, but do get a few nuggets from Hoge and Jahns, but you are absolutely correct in pointing out that most pods have as much as 15-20 minutes of useless filler time.

YouTube is where you get the guys that really add nothing, but you can find out of town stuff which gives you a different perspective.

As for the AM radio sports talk landscape, find very little unless they have on a guest of interest, even then you go right to the guests podcast and eliminate the odd Audacy commercials, not sure who thought the Sally Beauty Supply ads fit the WSCR demo?

It does seem that there are one or two opinion leaders at Halas Hall and that the entire "Bears Media" just repeats the exact same takes, it leads to very lazy and boring content, almost more interesting for what they do not notice or say than for the narrative they are pushing.

When I listen to most podcasts it reminds of the scene towards to end of Boogie Nights where the producer brings in some street kids and proclaims them to be the future of the industry. We are in the sports talk equivalent of the gonzo porn era.

I'm the anomalous old, MJH guy.

I've never been as enamored with Terry as everyone else
Mac was HFC too. The debate was MJH vs HFC, not MJH vs B&B.

You, Grid, Slap Shot Ed, there were a number of "older" MJH fans as well.

Chicago has been pretty lucky to have 3 really good afternoon shows. HFC, MJH, and B&B.

Mac is the common denominator there, you could count on solid NFL content on the days he was interested.

I realize Uncle Terry was not for everyone, but I loved the guy for his oddness, he would say things cryptically that you instantly got if you were a regular listener.

Lol. I have always been on the HFC bandwagon. And the critical ingredient on that show is an absolutely prime Terry Boers who was engaged and funny and all else. The ISDN parrot that he became on B&B was sad given his peak. And B&B was mostly a good show before political correctness came to sports talk radio.

I would imaging the HFC bandwagon would need heavily reinforced springs as there would be some rather large and unwieldy men on that wagon.

Remember Uncle Terry saying that Bill Parcels was wearing, "the biggest pair of pants I've seen in my life", that's the type of stuff you got from Terry back in the day.

From Jim O'Donnell. Would be great news. He'd have no competition quality-wise from the Score on a comeback.

Where is this speculation that Mac will be back on ESPN in some fashion? I guess I have missed that

Same. Maybe Bears pre & post game? I don't see him getting another full-time gig on either all-sports station. Maybe he goes full circle with a Coppock-like nighttime show on WGN or some other former powerhouse.

Okay here we go again. 3-5 months of semi-decent effort. Then we'll get some mail in performances about Bear weather, the McCaskeys, yada yada yada. Then he'll burn some bridge and be fired again. Then he'll come back on here looking to get some validation from his minions. Rinse and repeat.

Zederman is the director now so it makes a little sense for this to happen or at least there to be rumors.

His last 2 shows were terrible and some of that is because of the cohosts he picked but the effort wasn't there either. I don't get the feeling he knows what he wants to do and that's a big part of the problem.

Always seemed like a good guy. When he started taking the shows too seriously and putting a moratorium on often light hearted “guy talk”, it seemed self destructive. Between that, not enjoying his cohosts in the format, I never could listen to him on MVP

On his latest podcast, he was adamant that at this point in his life, he only wants to talk football and primarily NFL. So I can see him doing post-game and maybe a weekly phone appearance during NFL season. But not much more.

Mac can still give you a few solid hours of NFL/Bears content provided he works with someone whose knowledge he respects.

Read some interesting takes on the NBA, where it's devolved into a league where individual brands are more important to the players than playing competitive basketball, seems sports talk radio could move that way and rely more on known guys creating niche content for a specific audience in order to generate podcast/social media likes/clicks.

Interestingly, it seems the on air product on WSCR has already moved this way and has adopted the "smart fans" identity that Bernstein and apparently Rosen strangely seem to think generates the most interest. Seems they want to do an NPR type SJW sports media thing and reach a very small niche audience, the Cubs, and maybe some Bears pre/post are the only real drivers of original content.

AM radio was somewhat entertaining during the Steve and Gary, Kevin Matthews, and early days of WSCR when you had unique personality driven content, that is no longer the case.

It's nice to be in a position to work on your own terms. I think he's too young to back off so heavily.

Exactly....met him once at a remote and he was a good guy. Even at the end of MJH, he had started losing his fastball. I wish him the best, but the last show he did was typical Score dribble of yawn. He doesn't have it any more and I think he's fine with that.

Sad to hear Harry has health issues. I don't hold anything against him personally, I just thought he was an awful radio personality. He was the one thing that made MJH a few levels below HFC and even B&B in their prime. I think Drinky had a lot to do with the good B&B years.

This was my reaction as well. While I'm sure a transplant can get into the six figures in bills pretty quickly, he was a trust fund baby.

I'm happy he seemed to get his life turned around, and wish him the best.
