Kinda torn because I do like him doing other sports, but anyone would struggle to do an entertaining broadcast for the Sox, kinda became a Hawks like cult broadcast where only the most hardcore Sox fans were watching.

Seems the LaRussa hire moved the Sox into Trump like status with the WSCR SJW types, and of course the unpardonable sin of mistreating Timmy Anderson, yup the Sox are in the cancel pile.

Update on replacement for Benetti.

"From anecdotal fan reaction, McKnight is the favorite. Sox fans are familiar with him, as he is with them. Before working at ESPN 1000, McKnight hosted Sox pregame and postgame shows on WLS-AM (890), which aired games in 2016 and ’17. And he showed potential in his few TV broadcasts."

I don't get the fascination with Benetti. His call of the Giolito no-hitter was possibly the most unprofessional and nearly insane broadcast I have ever heard.

He calls the game for Twitter, for Defector commenters, for journalists, for people who read David Foster Wallace, for me. Flattered, of course, but he should call the game for everyone.

Also, I have no idea how old he is, but he'll come up with bizarre pop culture references from the distant past- like a mention of Kitty Carlisle on To Tell The Truth- that I'm shocked he knows and which most members of his audience certainly don't.

He's a little older than I am, and when I was in 7th grade I was reading about how the CIA killed Dorothy Kilgallen from What's My Line? because she knew too much about the Kennedy assassination. He probably grew up watching MST3k on Comedy Central, too. He's a kindred spirit, except I don't have the excuse of semi-functional legs.

The problem, though, is that the references aren't interesting or funny.

I don't need signification at the level of T.S. Eliot, but a pertinent though related to his consumption of popular culture would certainly amount to a significant break from his typical vacuity.
