Insane. That's what his posts make him look like.
Have you read his views on law enforcement?

His calls never have anything but a few facts randomly thrown together with no real point.

Here's an idea Steve. Next time, wait until you actually have an new or unique thought before picking up that phone.

The Cardinals are probably going to win the division and they may win the World Series isn't exactly ground breaking stuff.

Stick to flip flopping on moves Jim Hendry has made(Derosa, Bradley).

Sorry guys gotta disagree here. Elmhurst Steve is caller of the year compared to the crap that makes the air on B & B on an every day basis. People clamor for more fan interaction, Elmhurst Steve steps up to the plate and everyone calls him a blabbering baboon basically.

Not every call has to have a deep philosophical Tall Midget type vent to it.

I give him credit (or anyone) for calling in - sometimes you know exactly what you want to say and then get lost when you make it on air.

You do realize of course that ES makes the same shitty calls to B&B too, right? It isn't any less PTFB-worthy whether he places the call at 10:32am or 3:37pm.

Matty - don't short quote me - lol - I said compared to.

I like Elmhurst Steve so it probably taints my ability to fully grasp the depth of his calls - although I didn't think this was a bad call.

I did not realize that he called B & B as well. I haven't heard him on their show.

It's simple.

When a caller hangs up did he do one of the following:
1) Entertain you.
2) Give you information you didn't know.
3) Give analysis that isn't fairly obvious.

How exactly does calling and saying that the Cardinals are better than the Cubs, may win the World Series, and made trades at the deadline that improved the team satisfy any of those?

Rick, if that is the criteria, I have to seriously wonder if any show should take any callers. Most of the calls meet the first criteria for me - except for the really bad stuttering ones or really old guys that find their way to a phone. The second criteria - it's hard to surprise me with any information since the second it happens it's posted here most likely before callers can even get in and the third criteria - well, it happens, but I would say more so during football season than baseball season and most are just regurgitated reworked ideas from earlier callers.

Full Disclosure - I fully admit to cutting more slack to guys and callers that I like than I would for someone like say Parkridge Steph calls in. So yeah, I am probably a little biased.

Short quote, yes. But associating ES and caller of the year in any capacity is laughable IMO, that's all...

I don't really blame Steve for this situation.
Mac created a monster.
That can be a trouble with callers. Some feel they have enough built-up cred to spout anything onto the airwaves. It's almost like they just want to hear themselves on the squawk box.

I would say that is 80% of callers to all shows.

Tom in Hangover Park has a few competitors for the belt. Throw in the obvious ones -- "please turn down your radio" -- and you might have over 50 percent.

Listening is a skill...one you have obviously not aquired. Mac had asked Cub fans if we had lost faith in the Cubs to win the Central in 2009 and asked for callers to respond to his question. I called to say that I had lost faith in this team's ability to win their division in 2009, based not only on the current state of the Cubs, but because of how the Cardinals had bolstered their club, with the additions of DeRosa, Julio Lugo-who has done a great job as their leadoff man since aquired and Matt Holliday who is batting .480 since he was aquired by the Cardinals. Further, it's not just their offense, but the fact that their top 3 pitchers, Carpenter, Wainwright and Piiero have combined to help the Cards to 21 wins in the last 24 games that trio has started. A team with 3 pitchers going that well has the ability to not just hang onto thir 6 game division lead, but I believe as currently constructed, they can win the 2009 World Series.

Now I know there are a lot of jealous people here that want to downplay my contributions to the local radio stations, but there is a reason I am referred to as one of the most thoughtful callers on the station, a hall of fame caller, etc...I have a thought, I generally have stats, trends, etc. to back up my theories or opinions and I can articulate those things well. Boilermaker, you obviously resent my notoriety. Why I don't know and I don't care. You are insignificant.

Post subject:  Re: ElmhurstSteve

I'm not going to hate on Steve, his calls aren't bad at all to me. Hell, at least he can speak in complete sentences on air unlike many other callers. So now the bar on this board for calling in to sports radio is that you have to have some sort of profound never before heard thought? Maybe some callers can do that but for the most part I just hope for callers to get their thought out clearly and quickly and tee up some thoughts out of the hosts. Keep calling Steve, don't let the man get you down.
