You lost credibility when you said Flamingo. That run down pink shit hole is the worst this side of Excalibur. That being said, its white trailer trash pool is an awesome time, and the Margaritaville portion of the hotel casino is ok.

You ever see the elevators in that place?

It is one of the most unappealing color schemes on the strip. It is run down more than a 50 year old chain smoking whore. The dealers are rude. The customers are scary. The restaurants are putrid. It takes forever to check in. I'd rather gamble at McCaron airport.

I haven't been there in a while. Several of the casinos I've win money at are gone, including O'Sheas and Sahara. I think I made about $500 at a Hard Rock Hotel blackjack table, but the casino wasn't all that great. Three of the four times I stayed there, we got a room at T.I. because it was always cheaper and the casino was usually empty when I like to play around 4AM. I enjoyed the Golden Nugget as well. I'd second the Flamingo as being one of the worst. I'd throw in the Venetian too.

After staying there last time I was in Vegas (about 3 years ago) I must say agreed 100% with the comments about Flamingo.

We used to go to Vegas once or twice a year. But it has gotten expensive and there are so many other options. It seems to me they are doing a great job killing the golden goose.

I used to like to stay at NYNY, because it was really convenient for having a rental car, and I had enough status with Hyatt that MGM would give me a little status and give me a room in the elevator bank closest to the valet pickup. But now Hyatt diluted that deal so that I don't get free parking there any more, fuck that.

I don't gamble very much and at very low stakes, so I can only handle Vegas for about 48 hours. I used to play low stakes limit holdem back when you could still play online and get enough practice in to not suck ass at the casino playing $4/$8. But I haven't sat at a poker table in about three years, and if I really wanted to get a long session going I'd just go to Phoenix and play at Casino Arizona instead.

I miss all the degenerate places. I grew up around broken down horse racing players who would patronize our family business before heading out to Maywood, before the OTB days. Sahara, the old Hacienda, Stardust, the Palace downtown before they renovated it. You can keep Bellagio, Wynn, etc.

More importantly, where do people enjoy eating away from the strip?

LOL first few times I went we stayed at the stardust. Not the high rise -- too pricey for us poor saps. So we stayed at the low-rise motel in the back. Beds were short so my feet hung over and the shower hit me in the chest.

One night for whatever reason I left the keys in the door lock (this was in the days before key cards) and it was an exterior door that faced the parking lot. And I had put the rental car key on the same ring. We of course woke up the next morning to find the keys and the rental car gone. But I had taken out the extra insurance so I basically called up the rental car place and told them "oh well."

Were those the cinder block rooms? I haven't been there in about 20 years but I think that's where we stayed.

Vegas is upscale and expensive and completely changed. There are no cheap flights or rooms. On weekdays, you can still get a cheaper room. At some casinos, you can't even find a $10 table. It's hard to play craps (with odds) when you need to start with $15 on the pass line.

If you're looking for a fun casino, then it's Planet Hollywood. We prefer the Mirage as it is reasonably and has a good sports book. My dad is a TI junkie, but that place is pretty dead.

Yep cinder block. But I think others had a similar set-up. High rise in front and motel in back. Circus-circus comes to mind.

Ha there are both cheap rooms and flights.
Literally nothing you said in that first little paragraph is true except cheap weekday rooms lol

Sounds like someone had a bad time in Vegas one time

When we were there last it was in August. One day even though we found some $5 tables off strip my wife and I blew through the daily blackjack budget pretty quickly. So we ended up back at the Flamingo sports book (and what a dump that was) betting on the Arlington Million races. We laughed at ourselves for traveling 1,500 miles to bet on races taking place 8 blocks from our home.

I have great memories of that place. $2 blackjack plus decent draft beer.

One of the funnest places on the strip. They replaced it with a place called "the quad" I think and the O'Shea "casino" is inside that casino, definitely not what it used to be

Do I recall they gave you an OShea's painter cap when you hit a blackjack?

The new O'Shea's is mainly beer pong and a bar. The entire area is now a promenade leading back to the off strip ferris wheel. It is very nice now. They basically created a new strip going away from Las Vegas Blvd between the Linq/O'Shea's, and the Flamingo.

Two summers back I saw a drug bust in the bathroom in the Linq just outside O'Sheas.

When I am downtown, I like to play at Main Street Station. You can drink the beers that they make on premises at the 7-7-7 Brewery.

Bally's is my favorite because it's the center of the Strip and they always have a few $5 minimum tables for each game. Plus, most of their dealers like to have a good time with customers. I was in Vegas with many old college friends for this last Super Bowl. Hard to spot $5 tables at Bally's (or anywhere) because they know they can get away with it on a busy weekend.

I love Paris. There's a roulette table there that I always win at. Planet Hollywood is legit too. Never stayed (will have to soon) but I've played a lot there.

Is Imperial Palace still there? That was a shithole but so fun to gamble at.

It looks like that all got rolled up into the Linq. I alluded to that property above. I can't keep all these places straight, and I totally forgot about the Imperial Palace.

I hadn't been to Vegas for a few years until last month. The amount of shops they are putting into every available square inch is insane. I think it was Bally's that basically built an outdoor permanent street festival of shops outside.

You would think there would be a point where they would destroy any enjoyment but I guess they haven't yet so maybe it's just what people want.

I went to the Red Rock for the first time. That was the most enjoyable casino experience.

I heard good things about Red Rock. I haven't been.

Yes, there is that large outdoor shopping area outside Bally's now. It actually has some cool stores. I wouldn't go in Bally's as that place is rundown as much as Flamingo. Harrah's too. They all need a serious refresh, PH style.
