Cold exacta Mo Donegal and Nest...both are bred to run all day, and particularly down that stretch...it will have a good early pace despite the small field

I ate a lot of bad tickets and was only saved by including the 7 in my DD to Mo. I’ll take it.

Is there a reason why there was such a small field in the race?

It's not that the Belmont had a particularly small field. It's all the other dirt races over the two day festival.

It's really simple. There are too many races and too few horses.

Do winning horses regularly produce winning offspring?

It depends. There's a lot that goes into the breeding business. You have to have enough power to "make" a stallion. That means getting the right mares bred to him. You could have the greatest stallion that ever lived but if he isn't supported by the big players in the industry, he's going to fail.

Showing two year old speed is critical for a stallion prospect. And the conformation is important. For example, if you have a successful racehorse that bangs his shins, well, he's living with the conformation flaw that is causing that. But I wouldn't expect his offspring to live with that same flaw and I would expect him to pass that flaw on. The fact that he was exceptional doesn't mean you would want to buy his sons.

I had the exa. but it didn't pay much. Basically just covered my other bets.

Still kicking myself about the Manhattan.

You can also save this post because I'm going to say Mo Donegal has a good chance to win the Belmont. Of course, a lot can happen between now and June, but if there were a Belmont future wager I'd put a few bucks on him.
