Anyone playing today? Walt? OTE?

Blackbeard looks tough in the second.

I think Golden Pal finally gets his Ascot win today.

Your horse raced his balls off. The 1/9 shot was just too good.

Anti Golden Pal vibe from the British commentators. I'm sprinkling a bit on him.

He couldn't overcome the bad break but I doubt he could have beaten that Australian stud today anyway.

Yeah, I'd love to get to that meet someday. Get my top hat and tails on.

My wife's company has an office in Chester that she has to go to occasionally. The hotel she stays at is right next to the racecourse. I think it's supposed to be the oldest track in the world. 1539!

I've seen both dates (years) for when it opened...regardless that's a lot of losing tickets over the century

this race 7 exacta is going to break the toteboard

I watched the replay. Between the number of horses in the race, the lack of familiar-colored saddle cloths, and the unintelligible accent of the announcer, I had no clue what was going on

So today in Race 5 I liked the 26 horse (because of post position   ) had him and 5 others boxed up in the exacta, but then I thought to myself, "No, I'm just going to place W/P wagers...and I did...cancelled the exacta...and I won like $150

Meanwhile the exacta I cancelled paid+$800

I can fuck it up on both sides of the pond

It is crazy how you can fuck up a bet when you are only wanting to bet a certain amount on the race. Guilty as charged.

Sometimes you screw up and get lucky though. Here's my best story like that.

Some time in the 90s Gerry Longo was training a couple horses for me. Steve Desomer shipped a horse to Gerry from California to race in Chicago. For the life of me I cannot remember the horse's name. Whatever, it doesn't matter. Gerry told me the horse was really sharp and he had a good chance to win his first race in Chicago at Sportsman's Park that Friday night.

The horse had drawn the eight hole which was a tough spot at Sportsman's but Gerry wasn't too concerned. A friend and I went to Maywood to bet the horse but we weren't going to stay to watch the race because he was in the seventh race and we had to meet two other guys for dinner at the Come Back Inn in Melrose Park. I knew the horse was going to be a more than fair price.

So I went to the window and called out my ticket to Mike Nardiello- the younger Mike, not his dad who was the big guy in charge. Seventh Race, $200 to win on the 8. I checked the ticket and went to have my hamburger.

Right after we had ordered our food I got a strange feeling and I pulled out my ticket. Son of a bitch! I had checked the ticket at the window and seen it was $200 to win on the 8, but betting races in advance wasn't typical for me so it wasn't natural for me to look at which race it was for. I know I called out the seventh race but Mike must have been thinking about the hot chick he was going to bang later that night and just reflexively given me a ticket for the upcoming race which was the fourth.

I looked at the program and saw that the 8 in the fourth race was a longshot hazard driven by Jeff Kroninger, 15/1 on the morning line, no fucking chance. So that was $200 down the drain. But I thought I could rush back to the track and mitigate the damage by betting $300 on Gerry's horse. So I gobbled down my burger and rushed back to Maywood.

As I walked into Maywood I saw my buddy Gene and he said, "Nice hit with that 8 horse you liked." The race had just ended. I looked at the tote board and he had paid 5/1. Now I'm sick to my stomach. I'm standing there just motherfucking the world. I would have liked to choke Nardiello. But I knew it was my fault too.

Suddenly my friend Tom who was with me at the Come Back Inn walks up to me with a big smile on his face. I'm just furious. "What's so fucking funny?" He hands me a ticket with the results from the fourth race. The 8 horse had won and paid over $39.00. I walked out with a fat stack of cash.

That kind of stuff doesn't happen anymore now that we can bet from our phones. But I'm still a fuck up. About a month ago I bet $100 on a horse that crushed the field at 4/1. I'm checking my balance for my $500 but it looks like I only got $200. I accidentally bet the motherfucker to place.

This is why you should never bet anything but win. After first betting Tribuvan to place in the Manhattan, I changed it to show, thinking a 3-1 payout is better than nothing at all, if he misses the board. Then the horse ends up going wire to wire at 20-1. Who cares at that point about the original $2 bet that you were afraid to lose? You've lost many bets and will lose many bets in the future. Sometimes you just get lucky and shouldn't sabotage yourself.

I don't bet to place or show and I rarely box exactas.

You're hitting on one of the keys to being a good gambler- you should expect to lose.
