Are you under .500 betting all favorites? What are your units?

I don't always bet favorites. I usually look at the pitching matchup, and how the teams have been playing recently. As for units, I'm below .500 for the season, but I'm even units wise.

How can you play primarily favorites, and be even when your picks are below 50% ? If my math is correct, I have you down 13.54 units just this week.

In over 100 games, you've played 15 with payouts of +100 or more, and I think 6 of them were between +100 and +105 (I was counting in my head across multiple threads, so those numbers are plus or minus one or two.) There is no possible way that you are anywhere near even on units.

The Sox bats are hot, and the Rays don't hit lefties well.

I'm pretty much a rookie at this stuff. How much is a unit? I have heard it can be any amount basically.

I make 1 unit equal to 2.5% of my bankroll.

Let's say I play a dog at +150, then I risk 1 unit to win 1.50
If I play a favorite at -150, I risk 1.5 units to win 1.

If I may give you some advice, stop playing so many big favorites. Losing big favorites will kill your bankroll. This I have learned the hard way. Try to stick to dogs, and small favorites.

A unit is anything; it's just what you bet. Some guys bet $5 a game; some bet $500 or $5,000. If Chus or Coast say they're up 4 units, that means that if they bet $100 dollars a game, they'd be up $400. If you bet $5, you'd be up $20.

There's also two ways to handle bets on favorites. One is to bet a unit, regardless of the payout. Another way is to bet so that the payout equals one unit. So, for example, you're betting the Cubs at -110, you could bet $100 to win $91, or $110 to win $100.

Of course, you don't have to bet 1 unit per game, either: lots of handicappers break down their plays into 1 star, 2 star, and so on, and will bet more on games they are more confident of. If your unit is $20, you might make a basic play $20 but also play $60 if you really, really feel confident about a game. I play different sports different ways; football I almost always bet the same amount. Horse racing, I'll often wait until 2 minutes before the race to determine just how much I'm betting.

It's especially important you track your units while watching baseball, because everything is on the moneyline. Most football plays are -110, so you can post your record and everyone will have some indication of just how well you're doing (if you're 53-47, you're probably up if you just play the lines, but just barely.) In baseball, you could be 53-47 and down several units if you're playing all favorites.

This is what my beef (the best beefs get the best beefs) with Ferrall was about. He was playing big Money Line favs in hockey and hoops, and just giving his record, not the units that he is down.

Let the record show, that I am nowhere near $100 per unit. My plays are peanuts compared to that.

Thanks for the knowledge guys. I'll take your advice on the favorites, especially after a 1-5 day.
