This weekly wagering contest will reward the best football prognosticator with a $100 gift certificate from a meat/steak company. New guys can still join in any time and you don't have to make a pick every week. Post them all at once or in separate posts, but they must be posted in the current week's contest thread. Post your plays any time, but they must be posted before a game you are playing kicks off. You must make your picks in this thread and you must provide at least one reason for each pick. Minimum 50 picks to qualify by the end of the contest.

Illinois/Missouri under 60

Utah +3.5 at Meechigan

Illinois +9 vs. Missouri

Bowling Green +13 vs. Pittsburgh

Washington +13.5 vs. Oregon

This year I think I'm going completely meta, playing against the preponderance of the money. Let's see how this starts.

Hawkeye Vince with another year of picks. Let's see how this party starts this year
I hate road favorites but I seem to be falling into them.
Thursday night
UTEP @ Buffalo UNDER 58.5 - Both teams are trying new defenses and playing to their strengths with 3-3-5 in some cases. Both teams are looking to get out of the gate quick. (L - god damn hook)
Vanderbilt +4 @ Miami Ohio - BCS team on the road in Oxford could be trouble, but I'll take the points with a BCS team. (W - easy one)
Troy -6.5 @ Middle Tenn St - Troy is a powerhouse in a weak conference and Middle Tenn is pretty sucky. (Winner winner chicken dinner)
Wake Forest -13 @ Baylor - Baylor absolutely sucks. Wake is better than 60% ATS the last 2 years. (Winner Bears blow)

Saturday Games

Syracuse @ Northwestern UNDER 56 Syracuse blows and I think witht he new offense, it's going to take some time to gel for the Purple. (Winner)
Oklahoma State -7 vs WSU in Seattle - I'm a man! I'm 40! (Winner)
FIU @ Kansas -35.5 It's a huge number but the BCS winning Jayhawks have high hopes. (Winner)

Sunday
Kentucky @ Louisville -3.5: Welcome to era after Brohm and Woodson. I'll go with the 5th year senior starting at home versus the sophmore making his first start on the road in a hostile environment. (Loss Brutal - Cragthorpe should be fired)

Utah +3.5 at Michigan

I've been waiting for this one for a month. Michigan has a new coach with an entirely new offensive system manned by new players who do not have the physical skills to match the system. I would say that you play against Michigan every week until they prove they can cover. I don't think that is going to happen very early. Michigan is this year's Notre Dame, so get against them until the lines adjust.

Bowling Green +13 at Pitt

I have no particular love for BGSU in this one. However, brilliant young coach Wannie now has a ranked team that is getting big hype. I am more than willing to bet against him under those circumstances. I cannot remember a time Wannie has done a good job as a lead horse.

Vandy at Miami (OH) UNDER 40.5

I don't know if either team has the offensive punch to get this one over 40. I see Vandy scoring in single digits.

Temple -7 at Army

I usually like the service academies early in the year as they come out ready to fight from the first snap. Also, who would ever have thought a person could feel comfortable laying 7 with Temple on the road. Well, guess what, I'm a believer in the Owls. All sorts of returning players and a defense that shuts teams down in the red zone.

Ole Miss -7.5 against Memphis
BC -9.5 against Kent State in Cleveland
Virginia +19.5 against USC

MY UPSET SPECIAL. I understand this is USC and all but Virginia is not some pushover and they are at home. I expect this to rise to 20-20.5 by kickoff.

Clemson -4.5 against Alabama in Atlanta

LOOOVE this game. I'm buying into the Clemson hype and this seems like a nice number on a neutral field.

Florida Atlantic +24 against Texas

I know Texas regularly destoys competition in these early games. However, FAU is the type of team that was a patsy when UT scheduled them and now they have suddenly become a respectable team. This is too many points.

Temple is improving, but there is no way I am laying more than a TD on the road. They have been a favorite something like twice in the last decade, and got blown out both times.

Vanderbilt +3.5 vs Miami Oh- I know Miami Oh always plays tough, but Vandy from the Sec makes enough stops to get this one.

Oregon State -3 vs Stanford- I need to see more of what Harbaugh is doing at Stanford, like some stuff, but I think the Beavers pull this one out.

Chus, keep all your thoughts in a single thread. It makes it easier to compile your record and helps in reviewing your thoughts.

I do put every pick in my first post of the thread. I just bump the thread with every new pick, that way I can't be accused of any funny business, especially with the half time plays.

I make a new post with a new pick, and then I add it to my first post.

3-0 on the first day, makes me the clubhouse leader.

I'm not really concerned about funny business. I like to see what you are thinking.

I can only hope to improve on last year's 41.2% "winning" percentage  .

From thegreek.com:

Michigan / Utah OVER 41
This has the potential to be a fun game.

Northwestern -11 over Syracuse
I'm sure NU wants to start the season on the right foot.

Wisconsin -26 1/2 over Akron
Wisconsin will need to win their games by large margins to try and gain some votes in the polls.

Here is a few steamers.....

Western Michigan +14 1/2 at Nebraska: Ball State went to Lincoln last year and should have won. The Broncos will keep it close.

Mizzou -9 1/2 vs ILL at STL: The Tigers march starts here. Expect to see Daniel to Macklin lighting it up.

Monday: Fresno St +5 at Rutgers: Don't usually like teams travelling 3 time zones. However, Rutgers will be down a little and Fresno St is rising.

Attention CFB fans: The LSU v. App St. game has been moved up to 10am Sat. morn.

Chus can post as many times as need be. It is all the same in the end.
Keep up with the tour group good dolphin.

Ball St. covered and Indiana St. did not. So is 1-1 worse than 0-0?

These pretzels are making me thristy.

From Pinnacle Sports

Utah +3 vs Michigan- I will join everybody and go with Utah, of course when everybody goes with a road dog, usually a loser.

Oklahoma State -7 vs Washington State- Ok. State has an underated team this season and I think they start showing it tommorow.

East Carolina +9 vs Virginia Tech- I think Va. Tech made a mistake just sticking with Glennon and East Carolina has some good players, would not be suprised if ECU won this game.

USC -19 vs Virginina- USC could be a national champion and show it early with a pasting of the Cavaliers.

Great to have this contest back again this season.

Week 1 NCAA Picks (sportsbook.com lines)

Northwestern -11.5 vs Syracuse

Cats offense is too much for a poor Cuse team, especially in Evanston.

Texas -24 vs Florida Atlantic

Big number, but the Longhorns should roll in their opener.

Virginia +19.5 vs USC

Trojans get the outright victory, but struggle going out East.
