Everybody pick a driver each week. Nobody picks the same guy, picking is first come first served. The thread will be posted weekly AFTER QUALIFYING. By rule, I get to pick Jeff Burton each week. Tally up the points of the driver yous pick each week and reset the field after the Richmond race. This will be a 5 week play-in to the Chase For The Cup.

This means there will only be 43 spots available in this contest. SO SIGN UP EARLY AND OFTEN(you mults yous).

Then, starting with the first Chase race at New Hampshire, the Top 12 posters shall be assigned to the driver corresponding in the NEXTEL CUP standings. They keep this driver for the duration of the Chase. The chosen 12 will also get to pick a driver out of the Chase to make things more interesting. And rack up the points for the championship.

It's hard to pick a winner this season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. I was actually right on the money last Sunday at Michigan with Carl Edwards & the #99 Office Depot Ford Fusion, despite his much talked about confrontation at the finish line with series leader Kyle Busch and the #18 M & M's Toyota that got both drivers on probation. That'll be a continuing storyline as we get closer to the "Chase for the Cup". Speaking of the Cup, last year's Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Lowe's Chevy was out of the money early last week at Michigan. He won under the lights earlier this season at Phoenix, won the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis, and I'm taking Jimmie to win under the lights Sunday night at Fontana, CA.

It felt good to be right on the money picking Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Lowe's Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports last night at Fontana. :D :D ESPN's Dr. Jerry Punch and his NASCAR crew who called last night's Pepsi 500 kept saying that Jimmie dominated the race, and that he did. He led for more than half of the 250 laps that made up the Pepsi 500, and sent a statement to current Sprint Cup points leader Kyle Busch & Carl Edwards that he'll still be a force to be reckoned with once the "Chase for the Cup" begins September 14th in Loudon, NH. As for the Sprint Cup Series, it's supposed to return to Richmond next Saturday night for the last race before the "Chase", the Chevy Rock & Roll 400, which will set up the 12 drivers competing in NASCAR's version of the playoffs.

Jimmie may have won the battle, but he'll lose the war. one night does not a season make.

I'm not a Jimmie Johnson fan by any means, but he's definitely in the "Chase for the Cup". Jimmie is the defending Sprint Cup Series champion, and he definitely sent a message to Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards & the rest of the field hoping to race for the 2008 NASCAR Championship not to be counted out with his dominating performance Sunday night at the Pepsi 500. As NASCAR prepares for another nighttime race Saturday in Richmond, it's 3 drivers competing for 2 spots in the 12 man "Chase". They are Clint Bowyer, driver of the #07 Jack Daniels/DIRECTV Chevy, the Justin Timberlake-looking Kasey Kahne and the #9 Budweiser Dodge, and David Ragan, who drives the #6 "AAA" Ford Fusion. Bowyer actually won the first race of the season at Richmond, where Kyle's name became mud when his #18 M & M's Toyota bumped Dale Jr. & the #88 AMP Energy/Army National Guard Chevy and fans booed him.
