I guess where I'm foggy is why its doxxing when it's public information intended to be available to the communities in which this person lives and participates. The government WANTS this information easily accessible and available for anyone who comes into contact with the subject.

I taught a lower-level class that was largely about doxxing and it does have its moral uses.

 Sorry, had to read Charlotte's Web. Anyway: Civil disobedience (if you dox someone despite knowing it's a pretty shitty thing to do) and self-defense. Only problem is that some people (SJWs, wacko Christian fundamentalists, and everyone in between) interpret self-defense differently.

Otherwise, it's informing. We don't need that kind of society. There are alternatives.

So SJWplayer is the doxxer. Glad that is settled.

Sending other people the identifying information via PM is literally doxxing. Come on, man.

Sending a PRIVATE MESSAGE is not publishing on the internet.

Quote:

Definition of publish
transitive verb
1
a : to make generally known
b : to make public announcement of
2
a : to disseminate to the public

You published identifying information about someone via the Internet, dude. You doxxed him.

If he wanted to make generally known he would have posted this:
Quote:
gen·er·al·ly
ˈjen(ə)rəlē/Submit
adverb
1.
in most cases; usually.
"the term of a lease is generally 99 years"
synonyms: normally, in general, as a rule, by and large, more often than not, almost always, mainly, mostly, for the most part, predominantly, on the whole; More
2.
in general terms; without regard to particulars or exceptions.
"a decade when France was moving generally to the left"
synonyms: overall, in general terms, generally speaking, all in all, broadly, on average, basically, effectively
"popular opinion veers generally to the left"

I promise I'm done now.

It took all of four minutes. I received a PM from somebody about this situation, and I did a little digging. Of course, I won't be outing the person who sent me the PM.

Most of you haven't agreed with me in years. Why would I expect that now?

Rather, after having read through most of this nonsense, it's pretty clear the motives of the people involved in making this stuff public.

Sending a private message or email is the same thing as printing something in the New York Times?

I've never understood some of the connections people on this board make in questioning retorts. I mean, you may have well said:

"Sending a private message or email is the same thing as making a homemade deep dish pizza?"

Because the definition said PUBLISH. What did I publish? I shared some info privately.

Yeah... I mean the media is irrelevant. If he told someone over the phone or via text it's a private conversation, as is a private message. It was not intended for wider audience. Someone else made it public.

Because the leap in comparison Chus made also made no sense.

It's pretty safe to assume that is anything is communicated over the internet, it's "published" and probably at risk for being circulated. So, no, it probably won't make the New York Times, but that's not even close to the point.
