Can I call you and sell you some penny stocks?

One of the side bars to the entire Dot Com market rise and bust was that everyone wanted to buy stocks. But MANY people could only invest very small sums, so they would turn to penny stocks. I used to follow some of these companies on Raging Bull. There was one company, NCT Group, that was fascinating. When I started following it, the shares were 7 cents a piece. By the time it finally went under, the shares were worth a fraction of a penny.

I did a ton of research into how this company stayed in business. I looked up every officer and director and also the main funder of their losses- Carole Salkind. This lady was married to a guy named Morty Salkind. Following the money trail, I was fairly certain this was a money laundering operation. Long story short, fast forward many years, and Chris Christie put Morty Salkind in jail for tax evasion.

There were hundreds of crazy penny stocks out there.

The Vancouver Exchange was loaded with criminals.

I have hundreds of stories. I posted one of my favorite companies of all time above. I could spend a week telling you about Monarch Services. But we followed this other company that made like $50M by shorting all it customers stocks ahead of the dot com bust. We asked the company on a conference call why they did that since they weren't a trading outfit. They told us that when all their customers stop paying their bills, they knew the game was up. We had a different company that was seeking insurance because one director had murdered another one.

Here's the remnants of a message board about a company I made a shitload with:

Those places were great for stock geeks. Raging Bull was awesome for micro caps. Yahoo Finance was best for listed companies. In those days, I was the world's biggest troll. Why anyone would respond to someone with the user name, "backdoorbuddy" is beyond me, but they did.

:lol: :lol: Not only would they respond, they would actually take investment advice from guys with names like ThatHawaiiGuy or BeerStearns.

Yeah for sure. I really tried to help people avoid disaster. But eventually you get sick of people calling you a short seller or a paid hack. Then I just turned bitter and would play games with those
idiots.

There was this guy on the Rambus Yahoo Finance message boards named Art whose handle was artzw. The story was he invested his entire life savings in Rambus (RMBS). The stock was a darling but had fallen from $100 to like $5. Art was looking for people to empathize with him, and the board largely felt sorry for him, but he was mocked by the shorts as the last guy buying in March 2000 at NASDAQ 5,000. Eventually he died. I used to go onto that board and ask if anyone had heard from artzw.

I think I posted this at least once before, but there was this agitator called Bob Monski. He was such a jerk that someone created a website called "ihatebobmonski.com". When you went to the site, they had his supposed picture pasted onto all sorts of naked bodies. They even had a picture of him entering his double wide trailer in Alabama.

The website had stories about this guy. They posted his termination letter from his employer.

I think the entire thing was a joke, but I couldn't believe they went to such lengths just to piss off a poster.

Bob Monski is a real guy trading in microcaps, so lots of the story checked out.

JORR has the perfect bar voice. Distinct and can be heard over the typical bar blather. It is not too low as to be inaudible by the pumping base. I envision JORR prefers an arm or elbow on the bar with back to bartender 75% of the time enthralling all who will listen with his merry stories of yore (who the hell was his baseball reference Dr Ken never heard of?).

Good listen. I anxiously anticipate JORRII when horse racing, Telegram Sam and band dissection are discussed.

What would really be good is a JORR jogging story. The guy can make just about anything he talks about entertaining. A JORR pairing with regular reader could be a thing, although the verdict is still out if RR is more of a written word ki d of guy. .

* Didn't even know you can send your laundry out by the pound.

* Excellent point by JORR regarding Dahl as Phillips.

* "7-11 owned by Pakistani's"....Thanks,Fritzy!

* "balls in the pool" crack...cheap joke just like I like them.

* Carlos Lee a step below a HOF'r.. :lol:

* Years of playing Strat-o-matic has made me familiar with Ferris Fain's walking ability along with Eddie Stanky,too. On the Cubs,Santo was pretty good too.

* Thanks gentleman for an enjoyable listen.

Okay, jimmy, maybe a step and a half. But I will say there are probably a few guys in the Hall who weren't as good as Carlos Lee.
