You said you wanted war, you said you wanted to win.

Do you want to win this war or simply manage it? Don't persecute it with one hand ties behind your back and all aorts of fucked up ROE's.

I didn't say torture was off the table. I said it was not preferable. We maintain a civilized approach to war here. Don't be the frontyard Dick Cheney.

Hoping someone might have an old farmers trick or remedy for my first problem this year that I don't
remember encountering last year. Squirrels. They are digging all through my garden and flower pots.
So far they haven't ruined any plants but there was quite a bit of dirt taken out of a newly planted
flower pot. I read on a few websites that you can sprinkle cayenne pepper around the plants but
one drawback was having to reapply after rain or watering. Anybody have a similar problem and
better solution?

Bucket
Place water in bucket
Cover top of water with sunflower seeds
place ramp leading up to bucket
Stack dead squirrel corpses like cord wood!

Interesting. Then I have stacks of varmints to dispose of. I'll keep that in mind, thanks. Certainly sounds easier than
buying a pellet gun.

Pellet gun? Good luck. Hopefully you don't have insane neighbors who will see you brandishing a tool of death and raise holy hell. Now, if you have a bucket full of dead chipmunks you can burn them or throw them in a bag and put them in the garbage or put them on a crucifix around your garden to serve as warning or you could dress them up in fedora's and Hawaiian shirts and play Chip n Dales Rescue Rangers.

The pellet gun comment was mostly in jest for the exact reasons you mention, plus I am not a very good shot.
I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

Buy a falcon.

Or marking your territory with (human) urine usually works wonders on a lot of animals.

If you're not currently doing so, I would suggest that you also wash all produce before eating it.

Fun fact: urine kills various species of fungi.

I believe it also helps with jellyfish stings, so if you have any jellyfish hanging around your garden.......

Why do tomatoes have to have silly names?

Was reading another thread and Tall Midget reminded me to bump this one. My little garden is doing pretty well.
Besides the two varieties of cherry type tomatoes I planted one Beefsteak plant and one called Sir Speedy. This
one grows and brings tomatoes earlier. The plant is significantly larger than the Beefsteak. My pepper plants
are coming along pretty nicely as well. All plants are flowering. As for my three heads of lettuce I just harvested
from two of them this past weekend for salads and it was quite tasty. Everyone else having luck?

Maybe you can get a deal on a scratched-n-dented falcon at Sears ....

This works every year for me... Call a local dog groomer and get a bag of dog hair.

Line the entire perimeter of your garden with a border of the dog hair and you will not have critter problems.

The urine trick works very good with the dog hair as an extra deterrent.

Buy a plastic owl, and put it in the garden. The critters won't come near it.

I will look at doing this next season. My pepper plants were decimated by those varmints. I had one plant
that is producting a decent sized green pepper but the squirrels attempt to tear it from the ground every
few days after I replant. Lots of tomatoes on all 4 of my plants but no hints of any of them turning red yet.
It's been dry here and I have taken to watering the garden and backyard every other day. I have been
harvesting lettuce from my 3 plants every 10-14 days and having fresh salads with it.

A chipmunk ate about 25% of one of my green tomatoes. I gave them fair warning. The rat traps are set.

I am to chipmunks, as Israel is to Palestine.

My cherry tomatoes are starting to turn red. Pulled about a dozen last weekend. Just noticed that
two of my Sir Speedy tomatoes are turning red so it is all about to start here.
