I wasn't sure what day it was that morning. That should tell you what condition I was in.

back to the "superstition part" of fishing.

Its not a supernatural thing but the mental aspects of fishing bares itself out in the professional world. its all a mind/body issue. when you believe in a lure you fish it a lot differently than if you didnt.

so i troll on the river for walleye. using weighted stickbaits and shad raps. i bought a handful of flickershads and would run them the same way. never caught a fish on them. but when i run the stickbaits and shad raps, i'll catch fish. so its all i use. all it took was 1 trip with a buddy running flickershads and we hammered them. so now i run flickershads and catch them. what i found was i gave those flickershads allll but 20 minutes of time to catch me fish. then it was back to my go to.

same thing with gulp minnows. when you have confidence in your baits, you fish them harder, with more concentration, and with more precision.

I love taking people fishing. i never put a baitcaster in someones hands. EVER. always a spinning rod. but you know you are in trouble when they hold it upside down. even though they "fish all the time"
\\

Why is that?

most don't put on the brakes like everyone has already elaborated on.

I grew up with baitcasters and my Dad would beat me if I fucked up his reel. I was actually thinking spincaster though.

Anyone ever catch a Pike or Walleye in a DuPage Forest Preserve? According to the website they stock them in several of the sites. Rainbow Trout too.

It was a long time ago, but I caught a few pike at West Branch when we lived near there. They were small, though. In my experience, those forest preserve lakes are heavily pressured and overrun with bucket fishermen.

i did some ride a longs with iowa dnr and picked their brains about stocking (there is almost 0 natural walleye reproduction in iowa so they take eggs from the mississippi and missouri river and have a large stocking program) and they said that when you see those #'s on websites, assume that only 10-20% of those fish actually survive the year.
