South Korea takes gold in Men's bow and arrow shooting; USA settles for silver.

USA scores an individual gold in girls shooting guns. Ginny Thrasher, 19 year old from, yep, Virginia. Bested a couple of the PRC ladies.

I feel safer knowing that when Chiner invades, there are American girls like Ginny Thrasher who can protect me from evil gun-toting Chinese chicks:

this was tonight, before the 2nd semi-final for the 200m butterfly. Phelps bested the South African Le Clos tonight in this semi-final, right after Le Clos' stare-down and Phelps uber-game face. But both move on to tomorrow night's finals/the medal round.

Beach volleyball chick for the USA is pushing 40 with 3 kids? Destroying the chiners.

Feminists in an uproar. They don't believe in Kerri's right to her own feelings.

Probably a good thing they abridged her original quote:

Had to LOL in Phelps' post-race interview when he said he wasn't even looking at the guy. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Awesome:

Anne Riley @AnneRiley
Kerri Walsh Jennings was 11 weeks pregnant when she won the Olympics? I'm pretty sure I was face down in a Taco 12-Pack at that point.

the beach volleyball event stretches over the entire fortnight of the olympic games. prelim round-robin qualifier play this week and then Quarters (not the drinking game), Semis (Thurs) and Medals (Saturday, Aug 20th) next week

Appropriately for a people best know for beach attire, beach volleyball is 2nd only to football in popularity in Brazil. If anyone is going to serve up a defeat to undefeated-in-Olympic play Kerri Walsh Jennings, it could be the Brazilian team.

Here is my best Olympic story (other than my joy when Chicago was eliminated in 2009). I went to high school with this goof who wanted sooooooo bad to be an athlete. But he just had no talent. He was a roly poly motherfucker who looked like a Weeble. He played on the tennis team but he was no damn good. He played soccer with us and he was no damn good, plus he was such a jerkoff that every guy on the team hated his guts so he quit. Somehow he managed to play goalie enough at the club level that he actually got good enough to play on some professional indoor teams. This motherfucker had Olympic dreams. He obviously wasn't an Olympic soccer player. He tried out as a goalie for the U.S. team handball team in 1996 and made it to Atlanta as the third string goalie. A dream realized. I kind of respect that even though he was a high school douchebag.

I think it's funny that he so obviously maintains his own Wiki, but I guess it really isn't much different than my rock and roll thread. :lol:

Checked out Yaro's wiki, good candidate for Darkside's next 'DB of the Week' poll.

I'm a huge fan of the Olympics and have watched about 80% of it so far. Love watching the sports I only see every four years. Here are some of the good and bad sports I've seen so far.

Women's Rugby 7s: Best event of the games so far. Fast paced and the game is only 14 minutes long. Watched the entire competition capped off by awesome Australia vs New Zealand match up.

Water Polo and handball: Basically the same game only one is in a pool. Entertaining.

Field hockey: Sucks cause the stick they use is stupid, might as well have them all holding firewood logs.

soccer = stupid in the olympics, not best on best. Won't watch the women cause they're a bunch of Caller Bobs and fuck Hope Solo fucking cuntbag.

tennis = pass

archery and shooting = fun to watch, but needs better camera angles

swimming = the finals are interesting, all the heats and semi's are a total waste of time.

Judo = have seen some great upsets and matches especially watching the brazilian girl win Brazil's first gold of the games

basketball = pass

bike road race = awesome event, got into both the men's and womens. Great course, some amazing crashes.

rowing = stupid till the finals and even then it kinda sucks

white water rafting = only seen a couple minutes

-table tennis = no thanks

The Olympics are great. They get a little boring in the second week but I'll watch it pretty much every night.

I'm not a fan though. I've never been to one.

Well, for good or bad, the Olympics are pretty much made for TV.

swimming gymnastics, all those primetime ones are horribly boring. exactly why i don't watch them the 1400 days in between the olympics.

Katie Ledecky out reaches Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden to win gold in 200m free

Reporter: "What did you do to take her out of her comfort zone?"
Ledecky: "Uh, I swam really fast."

another awesome day at the Olympics! Men's Rugby 7's was great, non stop action. Some good beach volleyball matches. Didn't have time to catch much else from the day, but did see some good judo matches.

And of course how great was the primetime? Phelps owning that Dbag, Ledecky trying to become the female Phelps. And to top it off, a near perfect performance by the most dominant gymnastics team in world history.
