Odd, particularly since you're so full of number two ...

It was an intimidating experience. I didn't know if I could handle those expectations.

i used to go fish a few more popular il muskie lakes with a guy i knew who was 100% musky guy. i've never been more bored to tears in my life. this guy has caught probably only 30 muskies worth talking about yet has spent i think 30 years fishing for them. one would assume he's just bad at it but he's like one of the more well respected guys in the illinois musky club. i pulled in a 40" fish and he was like, didn't that make it all worth it? NO.

I'm not some musky expert, but 30 in 30 years? That's a terrible rate, even for muskies.

You should try some of the old strip mine lakes between the QC and Peoria. MANY muskies.

It's called the fish of 10,000 casts for a good reason. That said, I've had pretty good luck with a severed human finger. Not easy to find though. To make my rig I'll find a kitten, slit its throat and then jam a No. 4 treble hook up its ass. Troll the deeps with that. A baby duckling works too. I used a chihuahua puppy once but it shook too much. Spooked the fish.

A baby duckling would work. Muskie take 'em down.

My Dad always told me the best lure for Northern Pike was a "Daredevil". Don't know if he's right, but that's what he was taught I guess. I know a musky is a more lazy fish than a northern so don't know if it's best for them.

A musky is not a more lazy fish than a northern, whatever that is supposed to mean, anyway.
Muskies are harder to catch and more discerning in what they will chase and eat.

They are not lazy but if they don't want to hit your lure you can watch them simply following it as you figure 8 to the side of your boat.

Sarley, did I see an article of yours where a guy caught a 50-incher up near Algonquin?

His friends estimated it at 50". I figured 47" or 48" but who is to say?
Nice fish anyway!

i will say i'd rather fish 10 hours for musky and get no bites than fish 5 hours for pike and catch one every cast.

Wow, that is an unbelievable fish. Lucky for him he had 80 (eighty) pound test on. Or was that a misprint?

80 is correct.
I usually use 80-pound when muskie fishing.
