I was surprised to see this earlier today. I thought that Cabela's was the industry leader in that market. No idea
Bass Pro could gobble them up like that. Cabela's is a strong brand in that marketplace.

that sucks. these are never good for the consumer.

love cabela's. even better once they decided to locate stores in populous areas instead of bumblefuck.

I am quite certain that Cabela's will not be going away. It sounds like they plan on taking the company private. I am sure they will likely reorganize their
corporate and trim numbers a bit and then roll out a new marketing campaign. Would be foolish to get rid of the Cabela's name. I am sure they will be
able to leverage their buying power in similar markets moving forward and maybe just use Cabela's to move some different higher end type product. I
really don't know that much about their businesses or how they differ but always thought Cabela's was the higher end store.

prefer cabelas to bps. there are other competitors to worry about so don't worry about rising prices i don't think. cabelas is a northern staple, and bps covers the south pretty well. will be interesting the next few years thats for sure.

Agreed -- it will be an Empire/Luna type of business. If people have brand loyalty, no need to strip that away (go ask Macy's about that.)

Back office and supply chain synergies are too juicy to not combine. It's going to be odd in some markets where BPS and Cabella's have stores w/i 15-20 minutes, and some are in the process of being build or just opened. Some tough and complicated decision making would have to occur in those areas. Don't see much changing from consumer standpoint in our area with stores across IN border, Bolingbrook, Hoffman, and Gurnee.

I hear someone at work saying they are driving to Cabela's at least once a week.

I've never heard anyone talk about making a trip to Bass Pro Shop.

If you are ever in Memphis for any odd reason, the Bass Pro Shop is incredible there.

Isn't it inside the old Memphis Pyramid?

Driving into Memphis from the west is a trip because it's nothing but farm fields until suddenly a big-ass pyramid comes up over the horizon. And now apparently that big-ass pyramid sells durable outdoor apparel.
