When I was a kid maybe 10, my dad gets the idea he wants to rent a sailboat when we were at Disney World. I don't think he ever went sailing in his life. Anyway we're out in the middle of Bay Lake, which I'm guessing is a couple miles across. So we get out to the other side and a thunderstorm appears out of nowhere as they are wont do to in Florida. Lightning is striking all around and the security boats come and tell us we need to come ashore. Of course the wind is going the opposite way (which is how we got to the other side). My dad is trying to tack over but he doesn't have a clue. I'm praying at the bottom of the boat with my hands over my head thinking we are about to be incinerated by lightning. Eventually we get over toward the dock but the sail lines were all knotted up and he couldn't drop the sail to slow down. So we went full speed right into the side of the dock and hit a pontoon boat and put a big dent in the pontoon. Thankfully no one was watching b/c it was pouring rain. We got off the boat and pretty much I have hated boats ever since.

38' power catamaran set up as an express sport fisherman. In theory it was spectacular. In reality it was a massive cash sinkhole that never ran quite right.

We took it across the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas which was pretty awesome.

It would have been a great fishing and overnighting platform if I had been able to oversee all the "work" that went into it.

I was out on Lake Michigan yesterday with my kids.
We went with Captain Caleb Weiner of the Migrator.
We limited out on lake trout and got a few Cohoes, to boot.
The don't come any better than Captain Caleb, I promise you that.
If you call him, tell him I sent you.

Not a bad choice, JORR. You know your stuff like usual.
Crab Orchard has unbelievable bluegills too.
You need your own boat for Crab Orchard, there are no rentals there.
The problem is that Crab Orchard has more stumps in it than any place I know.
If the water levels are right, the stumps sit just under the surface making boating very challenging.

We did s charter up in door county many, many years ago. Hooked a brown early but it spit hook and we then spent the next three hours or so watching my brother get sicker and sicker. Finally got on some salmon later and ended up with a lot of kodiak (king) and a few coho. It was fun as a kid. Better than watching my dad rent a boat and have the engine die and have to tow back. He was in a goooood mood that night.

our first trip to disney i say we are spending a few days bass fishing that big lake in the middle of it (assuming thats bay lake). we rent a boat and some poles and what happens next is me and my 2 little girls reeling in 5lb bass after 5lb bass. which has basically ruined fishing for my children. if its not a trophy fish cast after cast, they want nothing to do with it now.

you should not be paying more than 100-120 per person on a salmon charter on lake michigan. The biggest thing to think about is if you can handle the waves or not.

if big water isnt' your thing...there are charters out of milwaukee that hammer the harbors when the salmon are in there....i have a buddy who lives in Madison that took me out for a day int he harbors and we just hammered salmon in the bays. there were 4' rollers out on the lake but was calm as day in the bay.

Random advice if you ever plan to charter on Erie. Perhaps during a visit to Cedar Point or Put in Bay. It is a very shallow lake compared to Michigan and the wind will make you a mess fast.

i recommend people book those charters out of the south of detroit area. because if the there are huge rollers around bass island, you can always shoot into the river and catch fish.
