I wish him luck and hope that last weekend wasn't the peak of a promising career.

He can be a mid pro in the vein of Brant Snedeker or Charles Howell III and still have generational wealth playing golf his entire life.

His resume says he should be a lot better than that but we have all seen plenty of sure things that are teaching pros now.

Yes I have no doubt that someone who comes in as an amateur and wins at that level should potentially be out there for the next 15-20 years. As Hawg mentions, pro golf is littered with a lot of "he's the next thing" guys. One small injury, changing coaches, you name it, there are so many things that can effect performance and it doesn't take a whole lot to not meet your potential, specifically for a guy who is 20 years old. Truly hope it works out.

Didn’t realize this, he is the only Amateur to win the U.S. Junior Amateur, U.S. Amateur and a PGA tour event.

Both Thomas Detry and Nick Hardy in the top 25. Go Illini. I'll try to catch some action this afternoon but definitely will see some coverage tomorrow.

Probably a really good deal for him. He has been a solid player the last few years but just never able to break through in the US. Unsure of what kind of status he has for majors but appears he has a Masters invite. Currently ranked 16 in the world but that will plummet when he can't gain additional points with LIV.

The PGA Tour has approved a $3 billion investment by Strategic Sports Group in a new commercial entity, people with knowledge of the matter said.

The transaction between the PGA Tour and Strategic Sports Group, led by John Henry’s Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC, could announced as soon as Wednesday, the people said, who requested anonymity discussing confidential information.

The transaction values the new entity at about $12 billion, one of the people with knowledge of the matter said. The deal doesn’t currently include Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, though the sovereign wealth fund is in ongoing talks to make an investment in the future, subject to regulatory approval, a person with knowledge of the matter said.

Other parties in the Fenway-led consortium include New York Mets owner Steve Cohen’s family office Cohen Private Ventures, and Marc Lasry, a former co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, Arthur Blank, Gerry Cardinale, Mike Gordon, Wyc Grousbeck, David Moross’ HighPost Capital, Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts and Tom Werner, Bloomberg has reported.

A spokesperson for the PGA Tour declined to comment.

The deal for the new commercial entity has faced numerous delays and controversies, ranging from over how much control PGA Tour players would have within the new league, broadcast and sponsorship contracts and the role of the Public Investment Fund.

The upstart LIV, which launched in 2022, made a splash by hiring star golfers like Phil Mickelson for contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The PGA Tour and LIV were soon embroiled in expensive court battles over antitrust violations and player contracts.

In June, the PGA Tour then shocked the golfing world by striking a deal with PIF and Europe’s professional league, the DP World Tour.

Talks over the tie-up has been slowed by negotiations and criticism from US politicians worried about the takeover of an iconic sports institution. The inclusion of US investors could help address those concerns. PGA Tour representatives have said that the kingdom’s investment fund would be only a minority investor in the combined entity.

Meanwhile, LIV has continued to entice high-profile golfers, including Ryder Cup teammates Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton.

Can someone explain all of this to me? As a fan, I don't care if players are making $500k, or $500 million. I just want to see all the best players in the same tournaments.

It's very light on details. Suppose it is good that they secured some funding and it isn't coming from the Middle East but most of us are in the same boat as you are. No clue what any of it means and the golf world and its best players continues to be divided. As the LIV guys start losing exemptions and continue to lose out on World Ranking points the divide will deepen.

I found it interesting that Rory has seemingly softened his stance a bit with this quote coming out this week...

“I think life is about choices. Guys made choices to go and play LIV, guys made choices to stay here. If people still have eligibility on this tour and they want to come back and play or you want to try and do something, let them come back. I mean, I don’t — I don’t think — I think it’s hard to punish people. I don’t think there should be a punishment for — obviously I’ve changed my tune on that because I see where golf is and I see that having a diminished PGA Tour and having a diminished LIV Tour or anything else is bad for both parties.

“It would be much better being together and moving forward together for the good of the game. That’s my opinion of it. So to me, the faster that we can all get back together and start to play and start to have the strongest fields possible I think is great for golf.”

I'm just glad they reworked the AT&T so I don't have to see Bill Murray making an ass of himself this weekend and we get a great field at Pebble Beach.

I guess the weather will be pretty bad but yes it is nice to have an elevated event where the fans can actually watch the professional golf rather than amateurs on an all-time great track.

There will be amateurs still, just Thursday and Friday.

That's my point, I don't have to see them on the weekend.

Ray Romano, Larry the Cable Guy, and Carlton can save it for the American Century Championship as well. See them next December in Tahoe.

Yeah, let’s continue to drive away what help make the PGA tour for no apparent reason other than pockets getting lined.

Scores were kind of all over the place yesterday with most of the lower ones coming from Spyglass Hill. We should know more about now the tournament is shaping up after today's rounds are completed. Fighting Illini Detry still playing well after the letdown last week at Torrey.

First tournament as a pro this week. Currently sitting in last place before teeing off 2nd round. Pebble can be a hard place to kick off your career. :shaking2:

He’s unconscious right now. I’ve felt that way for 5-6 holes but never a full round. Hawg I know you’ve been there
