Sunday rode a little over a metric century (~65 miles) on the DPRT from Potowatomi Woods in Wheeling to the end of the line at Van Patten Woods in Russell. The natural beauty along the DPRT in Lake County is amazing. Totally a hidden gem. My only qualm with the DPRT is they have MANY park benches to pop a squat and rest but no water fountains.

Yeah, sucks they've got all water fountains turned off.

Seriously, I don't know a whole lot about bikes/equipment. That's why I rode the same bike for 30 years. It fit well and I was very comfortable with it. I did some minimal research and it seems like this bike is suitable for the way I ride. I feel good that Kirkwood and Jet seem to agree with my assessment.

I considered the FX3 which is very similar to the Dual Sport but a little more "roadish". It's not like I ride a whole lot of rugged terrain and it probably would have been fine for me and a little faster but I was concerned about winter. Also, I do ride the gravel on the old Union Pacific right-of-way as one of my regular routes and despite the claim that the FX3 is okay on gravel, the tires looked like they might be a problem on that particular surface.

"tubeless ready rims" would lead me to believe JORR's bike doesn't come with tubeless tires. Is it a cost thing? What about durability/puncture resistance of tubeless vs tubed? I can only relate to it from a motorcycling perspective.

Less flat tires. Since there is no tube, if you ride over a rock or bang a pothole there is no tube to get pinched when the tire gets pushed into the rim. Also sealant is used in tubeless tires so if the puncture is small the sealant will fill that up.

Biggest negative is it is more a PITA to deal with if there is flat and with overall maintenance. Tube tires are easy and cheap; just throw a new one in

Even with tubeless, you should carry a tube and changing kit with you on long rides. I can't believe how difficult it is to change out a flat. It's insanely difficult to get the tire back on the rim...even with the right equipment.

Had the rear rim fail last fall on my 20 year old GT. Was fortunate to find a matching OEM rim on eBay - no way could my mild OCD deal with non-matching rims. Anyway, now comes the hard part - "respoking" the wheel - or lacing/wheelbuilding as it's evidently called. Looks like a pain in the ass. We'll see.

Dropped my son off at school and his dorm doesn’t have a covered bike rack. Any suggestions for keeping it from rusting? Do they make covers or does he just have to keep it oiled more often?

I have to tell this story just because it's so utterly ridiculous. So, I had ridden twenty miles this morning and I figured I was done for the day, but it got so nice out this afternoon I wanted to take advantage of it so I went out to go an easy twelve miler before supper.

I got out on the North Branch Trial and I was going along not pushing at all. Still- and this isn't a humblebrag, it's a straight up brag- I'm just naturally fast at this point. I mean, I've heard "ON YOUR LEFT!" a lot over the years but it doesn't really happen too often now. I'm just too strong for the vast majority of guys to even consider trying to pass me.

Anyway, I'm going along and suddenly I hear a guy- and calling it a yell or a scream doesn't do it justice- this guy, he BELLOWS "ON YOUR LEFT!!!!!!!" at the very top of his lungs. And the thing is, he wasn't even close to me yet. I shoulder checked and he was a minimum of ten yards behind me when he shouted. I actually started laughing out loud. I seriously thought it was someone from this board fucking with me. Furious Styles, is that you? Golden Jet?

I let the guy go although it wasn't that easy for him to get by me even though I was lollygagging and he was riding as hard as he could. But as soon as he crossed over in front of me I came back out to his left and immediately started passing him. He began making all kinds of noises. I wasn't sure if they were words or what. I thought I heard him say, "The race is on. Oh yeah. Oh yeah." But I'm not sure. I don't even think talking to yourself out loud while riding is that weird. I sometimes do it myself, like, "Pick it up now, Joe." Not while anyone else is within earshot though.

I dumped my bike this morning for the first time since last winter. I was heading north on the Channel Trail and I got to the intersection at Golf and McCormick. I was going about 15 mph. It was still dark out so I had my lights on. I have a bad habit of looking down at the front tire when I have a good cadence going. I had a fresh green light and nobody was coming to make a right turn so I was just sailing along. I looked up and saw a woman I see nearly every morning in the crosswalk. We did that thing where neither of us was sure which way the other was going to go, so I had to grab hard. It was really slick and the pavement there is brand new which didn't help. I lost the back end and went down. My front light and rear fender went flying. I'm gonna be sore for awhile.
