I fucked up my knee this morning. I've been icing it all day but I still can't walk right. If this gets any worse I'm gonna start calling White Sox games.

went five miles in four degrees. I guess the worst part is the cushion in your shoes gets hard.

been a tough go the past two weeks. Maybe went 3-4 times total. not sure what is worse, arctic air or slush.

Arctic air. The slush, you can avoid. The air hurts everywhere.

this winter has not been nearly as brutal as last year or the year before running-wise in my opinion. only a couple of short bursts of real arctic weather, last week being one of them. the roads have been pretty clear for the most part too. last night was a little tricky with some slush and ice. i find that the temps you can prepare for, its the road conditions that make things tough. looking forward to the Illinois Marathon in April, going to run the relay with some friends again this year. have a couple of half marathons I'm going to do late sprint early summer and then if all goes well the first full marathon in September or October. not sure which event to commit to yet, but i like the looks of the Quad Cities Marathon as a first marathon.

I too have found this winter quite acceptable. Have achieved minimum of 40 miles each week throughout this winter. Even last week wasn't terrible. I waited until 10:30 to go out Saturday. While it was cold, it was full sun and the wind wasn't bad.

Last week caught me totally off guard. I was gearing up for spring. Today...wet, flurries, slush...fuck it.

i ripped off a 5 miler in 41 minutes on a treadmill last night.

can't wait for this weekend's warm weather to get off the hamster wheel. looking to do 7-10 mile run which i just mentally can't on a treadmill.

I consider it a victory that I made it through winter running, albeit on a reduced schedule. I guess I averaged 3 days/week over the last four weeks. enough that I didn't totally fall off a cliff, but I am certainly not making any forward progress. I ran 5 miles in about 45 minutes yesterday. Not totally gassed but gave it a good effort. We're getting more warmth and daylight...things should get better.

Indeed. The lack of daylight tricks my brain. I have no idea going out for a 7 miler at 8 at dusk in the spring/summer. However, in the winter I'm already thinking of hitting the hay at 5.15 since the sun is down.

This winter I've got much more into tracking calories burned rather than distance although 5.2 miles seems to be the magic distance.

It hasn't stopped binge drinking calorie intake but it is a lot easier to pass on some junk food if you think about the distance you'll need to run to burn it off.

ive been getting in some good long runs lately, and this weekend should be nice and warm so i hope to get a lot of good miles. it is supposed to be windy though, and that can make a difference. i am back up into the 30-35 mpw range, and i hope to get it up to 40 regularly during the warm weather. i ran a 4-mile race a couple weeks back and unexpectedly got a nice PR, 31:19, a 7:50 pace. fewer races this year for me, with better training.

That's pretty impressive at least compared to me. I ran 9:05 miles this morning. How long have you been running?

i started in august '13. i think A genius said it at the beginning of this thread, improvement comes early and often at first, knocking minutes off of a 5k used to seem easy. now PR's are coming down hard-fought seconds at a time. im excited to explore new longer distances this year instead of trying to scrape off seconds from my 5k time.

Six miles today in shorts. Not wise. My thighs/knees are burning up now.

i did six miles for the first time in over a year. but it was on a treadmill. just so happened my gym was removing all the elliptical machines to replace with new ones and the treadmills were all that were open. didn't exactly feel like old times but i certainly had some nice moments.

Another great day for running! Was hoping to get 35 miles in this week. If it's raining hard I'm not going. I'm too old for this. :bigsmurf:

$185 for the Chicago Marathon? Fuck that. Is there a low-rent version within an hour or so drive?

Just map a 26-mile run and do it for free. I went around the entire shore of Geneva Lake three years ago. That was about 26 miles. I didn't exactly have a great time, though; had to sit for like half an hour just short of Fontana.

If you want spring marathons here are two:

Kenosha. $85. https://www.imathlete.com/events/EventR ... ource=Main

Wautoma WI (more than an hour but the savings pays for the gas.). Marathon $55 ($65 after 03/31). http://www.jailbreakmarathon.com/

Fall marathons under $100? Right now I got nothing.
