Appeared like quite a few posters had a successful 2013 in the fitness department.

I started at 240, got to 212 by summer and now holidays ballooned me up to 225.

Goal is to break the elusive 200 barrier.

I had a great first part of the year. Lost a bunch of weight, won biggest loser contest at work. Last half of the year went to crap. Lots of stress and gained back almost all of what I lost. :|

So back at it again this year.

I was 200 pounds the better of 15 years. About three years ago, I found out I had high cholesterol. I made a complete lifestyle change in terms of eating habits. I lost 35-40 pounds within six months. I hover around 162. You have to create sustainable eating habits. I dropped sugar sodas, candy, chips, ate smaller portions, cheese sticks/blocks, cut back on red meat, etc. I replaced that with lots of fruits, vegetables, unsalted peanuts, chicken/turkey (i.e. burgers, chili), unsweetened seltzer water and ice tea, and lots of grain cereals. I feel a ton better. I'll never go back.

This is where I am starting as well. I am going to try a different approach similar to yours. Also my girlfriend
will be keeping me honest and we will be weighing in and keeping each other somewhat accountable. I think
I can realistically get to 210-215. I played varsity hoops 20 years ago at 190 and graduated college 15 years
ago at 200.

The wife and I are making plans to be healthier. We both need to drop some LBS, though we are not putting a number goal out there. We both need to be more active, eat better, and just be healthier overall. If she I lose 5 pounds great, if I lose 40 great. The point of it all is to just try to treat our bodies a lot better in our 30s than we did in our 20s.

I've been doing 10 pushups during every commercial break during the NFL playoffs. I was sore as hell this morning. Down to 5 today.

I'll keep an eye out for this. We don't live together and haven't talked about it on a daily basis but she did

That is why I'm not a bigfan of putting numbers goals out there. For example, "over the next 6 weeks I want to lose 20lbs." That's good, somewhat ambitious, and nice to have as a goal, but if for some reason you are down 'only' 17lbs at that 6 week mark, you didn't fail. You're down 17 lbs, and probably a lot healthier than you were 6 weeks ago.

If I had to grade our first week on this "diet" I'd give us a C. The weekend kind of killed us. We didn't eat too terribly, but drank on Saturday night. Shoveling all the damn snow probably helped a bit though.

I understand what you are saying Frank. I believe I have been betwen 240 and 250 the last three years we
had this thread so any progress would be good progress. I have broken into the 230's a few times but don't
stay there long. I'd be happy with 15 lbs of weight loss if it would stay off for good.

I joined a gym for the first time in my life. I obviously had access to gyms for high school and college but not after that.

It makes so much of a difference. It's so much easier and with so many more options. Obviously, the only hard part is getting in the car and going but I already feel better.

So, I recommend joining a gym if you are committed to excellence in 2014.

In addition to eating healthier, I've started playing basketball, both at the gym and in a men's league. It's taken a few weeks, but I'm starting to get my legs and lungs a little bit. I still feel dead the day after we play.

Agreed. It's amazing how little parts of your diet that seem meaningless can make a big difference.

In the middle of week 2 of biggest loser contest at work. Have lost about 10lbs so far. Doing the insanity workouts in the morning. They are kicking my ass. I can hardly get up and down out of chairs.

Im the opposite. Could never convince myself to go to the gym. When you have the few things you need (dumbells etc) in the house, they mock you as you sit there being lazy, so I worked out more.
