As a part of fall clean-up my grandma asked me to pop over this weekend and cut down all her plants, annuals, roses etc this weekend. She's over 80 so she's RETIRED from the plant and clean-up game. The grandsons have to step up in that department.

Any green thumbs on the board know how to prune rose plants/bushes? I get you pull annuals out as they only last a season. But roses you cut them down so they can re-grow in the spring.

Any experts that can shed on how?

You can trim the roses down to 8-10 inches and they will grow back no problem.

So do I just prune the "main" "branches"? The "branches" are like 2 feet high I'd say.

I am fairly certain he was being very serious, don't see the need to delete his post or the eye roll. He does a lot for his parents and grandparents.

Just trim it all the way down to where it is like 8 to 10 inches off of the ground, you will not hurt it.

The handle broke off of my shower one time and the water was just pouring out and it could not drain fast enough. I did the naked run down 2 flight of stairs to my basement to get the water turned off. Unbelievable panic!!!

I'm strongly pro-Kirkwood but I'd understand banning him for this thread. Need to know where the line is.

I should have instead put the thread title in ALL-CAPS and not have any point in the body of the post to stimulate discussion?

I don't know why you keep those things that need pruning. Just rip them out.

Careful, champ. It depends what kind of bush you are talking. You don't want to prune bushes in the fall that set buds in the spring. Lilacs and Rhododendron are two that come to mind. If you do you will be sacrificing next year's blooms.

Yes, rule of thumb, do no cutting of lilacs after the 4th of July.
