:roll: Just as I'm sure they did it because they fundamentally lack respect for the women portrayed in the movie, and are dressing up rookies as the characters in an effort to let women know that they are "lesser-than" and their league 70 years ago is a complete joke to them. You know, instead of just dressing up rookies in baseball-themed drag because it is, in certain contexts, funny to make men uncomfortable by having them dress in drag (see: SNL, 30 Rock, Kids in the Hall, etc.).

THIS is the problem with Julie's outrage about this issue. Things can be uncouth or otherwise "edgy" without inducing abject offense. In fact, I don't remember Julie being outraged when the Cubs had their rookies dress up as female fairy tale characters.

O Bagged One used to freak the fuck out over any mention of Kids in the Hall and the fact that I really liked it. Like, full-on "I need an adult" hand-flapping at the idea of men dressing as women. Maybe he thought Dave Foley was too convincing in drag.

I saw last on the news last night where Maddon had the Cubs wear the jersey of their favorite football player. Except for the rookies who had to dress in cheerleader outfits. The reasoning behind that seems the same as what the Mets did. Did Julie express anger over that, too? Is that different?

The other night when the Cubs were on ESPN, my wife, who I would definitely call "liberal" went into a tirade about how bad women broadcasters are at doing men's sports. She said it felt awkward and forced. She's right.

I think it gets lost sometimes because Deadspin occasionally likes to run fawning columns that are like "[athlete] Is Awesome At Sports And Better At Life Than You," but exactly what sort of sophistication do we really expect from the meathead jocks who make it to the bigs, anyway? Of course they think it's really funny to make a guy wear a dress because most of them are dopes who sacrificed any sort of well-rounded human experience in order to make money playing baseball. It's retrograde and stupid, but hardly worth agonizing over.

You're the exaxt same as Julie though, she sees something offensive in everything and you look at something and you get all /mensrights puffy chested and proclaim it "undeniably, and unquestionably, unoffensive" despite real non-Julie people being offended by it.
