What risk is associated with owning ~97% of North American professional sports franchises? The government subsidizes almost all of them and the valuations of teams only go up every year. Even some piece of junk like the Florida Panthers is a winning investment because the government pays you to have the master lease on a public arena with which to make money on concerts. Which baseball teams are in dire straits? Maybe the Rays? They're pocketing revenue sharing and coming out ahead. Bottom line, we're not talking about Greek restaurants here -- now more than ever after the coup against Donald Sterling, these are risk-free investments.

Yeah but people might not like you.

Olin on and they talked about Larry Allen a bit.

Apparently during one pro bowl, he and Irvin went out drinking and stayed out to the point his wife was pissed off. To stay away from her, Allen entered a bench press competition that next morning (which apparently is/was a thing?). Hungover Allen benched 225lbs like 50 times and easily won.

I've been listening a lot this year and it's become clear that Parkins and Speigel is the best show going these days. A nice combination of light-hearted goofiness and sports info. As others have mentioned, the producers do a nice job of adding to the levity. The show is definitely hitting it's stride. Hopefully it continues through the upcoming the doldrums.

Why is he still on the air? Making Hitler jokes in 2022 and still allowed to sit his 500 pound fat ass down and yap into a mic?

Still have a few days a week on this message board for more interesting than any score content.

Personally just haven't listened to any Chi sports radio in 2 years. Or really and sports shows, national or podcasts. With twitter and youtube highlights available right away I don't think it is radio personalities fault.

I see sports talk as a dying industry all around.

I did see on twitter there is a producer for the Parkins show that looks like the ultimate hipster from 2010. Beard, tattoos, but everything perfectly done.
Back in my day called him a Poser. Of course I am a Kurt Cobain generation person. He was F-ed up, but he was real.

Yeah, it's clearly the best by a wide margin. But I'd still like to see Spiegel replaced. He adds nothing to the show.

Also: Tannehill has a very strange voice, kind of like Yogi Bear if he had congestive heart failure.

Bernstein is in full pedantic mode today, lecturing Mully and Haw on the finer points of Demar Derozan's offensive game.

Mully sounds like he is simultaneously tuning Bernstein out and contemplating slipping a plastic bag over Dan's head.

We'll see what happens.

Bernstein just said ‘we deserve’ the bulls to be good & have expectations given the trophies they have. Sounded like a B&B caller they’d mock execute.

The twitch stream has these little replays and they just aired the Olin going off on George thing.

I’d not heard the whole thing before and didn’t realize part of his angst was George not calling him after his career ended to see how his body was holding up after playing all those games for the Bears. He somehow seems like a bigger whiner now than the day it happened.

Surprised? I mean she is co-chairing a PAC for a Republican Gubernatorial Candidate in Minnesota (Kendall Qualls).

He took half of what they paid Hanely.

Haugh seems disinterested most of the time, it makes for a difficult listen, Kap and Hoody are a far better AM choice.

Kind of sad to listen to Bernstein at this point, he's kind of trapped himself into the lead SJW at the station, it's a bit, but he's almost become Flair like in the way he has to live his gimmick at this point in his career.

I think he's fine for the morning. He's able to articulate a thought without tripping all over himself (unlike Mulli or Hanley) and he's not someone that's going to get in your face and challenge you. I don't really need a Dan Bernstein or Jason Goff type in the morning.

yes, Haugh can articulate a thought. Mully can not. Haugh's thoughts are often idiotic, but has no issue articulating them.

Bernstein philosophizin’ in the context of the Howard debacle, suggesting coaches really need to teach empathy rather than some trite display of sportsmanship exemplified by the handshake line.

Not the worst message but maybe on the Mount Rushmore of worst people to deliver that message.

Listened to Parkins and Spiegel for the first time in a while yesterday. Great stuff as always. Loved hearing the discussion about the greedy MLB owners and Offman telling Score stories. Guess they couldn't bring up Offman's numerous hilarious misspeaks over the years. The Skip/Chip Caray update has to be the funniest thing ever said on the Score.

happy about the fact that mully loves dropping european (mainly english) football tidbits here and there...but, he has chelsea all wrong. their supporters are known to be as loud as a golf clap and one could argue that fulham (their neighbors) are more passionately supported.

chelsea's supporters are routinely mocked in the u.k....what is mully on about?

the hooligan issue was dealt with over 35 years ago, internally and externally...though it took a few dozen italian deaths to get the ball rolling. from south america to europe, many clubs are not only a sport manifestation of a neighborhood, but, also a culture or a political party. easy to 'recruit' hooligans in those nations, though the clamps are been tightened. the hooligan problem in england was about bored, unemployed young adults...not angry ideologues.

when i was a kid, livorno, in italy, was known as a club whose supporters were ardent communists. lazio's loudest supporters were proud fascists. imagine those 2 in a cup semi-final...yes, the violence before, during and after a match would be very predictable. mully needs to do his own research and not listen to the loudest chelsea supporter in the pub.
