I kind of agree with him, but we're arriving at our conclusion in different ways. For me, there are just too many catchers that are similar to Molina. I could make an argument that he really wasn't a whole lot different than David Ross or Pierzynski.

But his argument seems to come down to "Cardinals suck. Cardinals fans are toothless hillbilly losers." That's fine, I guess. He's a Cubs fan. But I'm sure he reveres and overvalues plenty of Cubs (Mark Grace?) the same way Cardinal fans revere and overvalue Molina.

Anyway, Molina is a franchise player at a level above Mark Grace or A.J. Pierzynski. I don't like it either, but I can't argue it.

Id pump the brakes on any all time great comparisons especially at that position. He was a really good ball player, better Wrigleyville cocksman.

I don't see why he can't get the Ozzie Smith treatment. He's right up there in dWAR with the greats. Maybe even 2nd to Rodriguez.

I would say Jim Sundberg is a really good comp for Molina. Do you think Sundberg belongs in the Hall of Fame? Maybe he does. He won't be though. And it's obviously not like he was this no-brainer first ballot immortal. And that seems to be Fels's point re: Molina.
