Do you guys remember Brett Favre’s diva act that he pulled for years, trying to straddle the fence as long as he could so Packers fans, the media, and the NFL world as a whole would beckon him to come back until his shitkicker pecker was just tumescent enough? I totally remember that. I was like, "That thing is tumultuous."

I'm now at a tiki bar in Indianapolis sitting next to a guy who looks like KDdidit. He's polite. Probably a MAGAt.

Nah he just opened a craft brewery with his frat partner and pitches his locally sourced, small batch IPA’s as they eschewed the corporate world and their handy philosophy degrees. Biden only cancelled 7.2% of their student loans. He will vote for JB because he understands the little guy.

I kind of agree with him, but we're arriving at our conclusion in different ways. For me, there are just too many catchers that are similar to Molina. I could make an argument that he really wasn't a whole lot different than David Ross or Pierzynski.

But his argument seems to come down to "Cardinals suck. Cardinals fans are toothless hillbilly losers." That's fine, I guess. He's a Cubs fan. But I'm sure he reveres and overvalues plenty of Cubs (Mark Grace?) the same way Cardinal fans revere and overvalue Molina.

The pack front office wanted him to retire, they knew Roger's was better. That's what happens when you have an aging star and no balls to cut the leash because you are weak and afraid of the backlash.

JORR, you dont think Grace deserves the praise/rankings hes received in context of first basemen?

Dude was just a solid baseball player. Contact hitter, extremely difficult to strikeout, some power, excellent fielder.

I think if you lead any decade in hits in the major leagues you are a pretty good baseball player. Even if they are all singles.

over his career, he averaged 176 hits a season with 37 doubles, 12 HR, 83 RBIs and only 46 strikeouts.

its really only the lack of HR that could potentially "exclude" him from any type of All Time Great conversation. And thats absurd

Id pump the brakes on any all time great comparisons especially at that position. He was a really good ball player, better Wrigleyville cocksman.

There are tons of guys just like him. He's no different than Wally Joyner or Jeff Conine.

I think he would say he's not a Cubs fan anymore (the same way he says he's not a Blackhawks fan anymore) and will only overvalue Deadspin-approved players, like anyone on the Phillies and/or black.

Anyway, Molina is a franchise player at a level above Mark Grace or A.J. Pierzynski. I don't like it either, but I can't argue it.

I probably put more value on Molina than most younger fans who just read a stats page would. But to do that you have to grant him "intangibles." Being a child of bernstein, Fels isn't likely to do that.

I don't see why he can't get the Ozzie Smith treatment. He's right up there in dWAR with the greats. Maybe even 2nd to Rodriguez.

I would say Jim Sundberg is a really good comp for Molina. Do you think Sundberg belongs in the Hall of Fame? Maybe he does. He won't be though. And it's obviously not like he was this no-brainer first ballot immortal. And that seems to be Fels's point re: Molina.

Definitely not a no-brainer HOFer. Just throwing my two cents in. Like most catchers, Sundberg declined as he got older. Molina did offensively, but he's pretty much the same catcher now as he's always been. JAWS doesn't think that much of him, putting him between Jason Kendall and Darrell Porter. And Sundberg behind Porter. But it remains that Molina is #2 defensive catcher behind Pudge.

2100 games at catcher also up there with the greats.

He'd get my vote eventually.
