I couldn't remember the lyrics, so I looked them up. And as usual, I didn't know half of them. I thought it started "He's Mike Murphy..."

Here's Mike Murphy.
He's the man of the fans, nothing more.
Here's Mike Murphy.
Here's the show with the most on the Score.
Well he's never been in a press box,
Or talked with the jocks through the locker room door.
Yes, here's Mike Murphy.
Just fans talking to fans on the Score.
And that's Murphy's law... Murphy's law... MURPHY'S LAW!

I never had a clue what the words were because Murph always talked over them.

JORR said the Cleaning Ladys did that song. Not a bad local power-pop band for their time. Not as good as the Ish, but who was? I like "Billy's Got a New Girlfriend" and "My Girl Loves Everything I Do."

I for the life of me thought the last lines were "Now Murph is on"

I thought it was "Murph is all." What a world that'd be.

Chet has completely lost it. I used to be a little more sympathetic as his show was a big part of graduate school routine for me. But the last two years, he doesn't have a single good thought.

I never thought Chet was a great interviewer. He was too grab-assy and relied on his stock guys. But I will say that his production values hark back to a different time where guys didn't just roll in and start blabbing every idiot thought that popped into their heads. That's why he wasn't really a good fit for the Score.

And why Bernstein has such disdain for Murph. Like him or hate him, Murph put in the effort.

It has been verified by MANY (not just Dan and Terry) that Murph was impossible to work with.

I worked with Murph. Quite well actually. You can usually get along with whomever you choose to.

Fred certainly liked him. And Fred both times I hung out with him bashed Dan and Terry to no end, so it depends on who you talk to...
However...
I don't doubt the "Jerome" story with Goff, I don't doubt Producer Cy and I don't doubt some of if not all Matty's stories.

I will say I listened to Murph and Fred and I did call into Murph's show as my first call because he openly advertised for first time callers to call in. But after a few months of listening to him solo, it just became grating. His "Judge Murphy is in, Murph is out in the hall" routine was the last straw for me.

I think the last line was Mike Murphy's On.

I listened to Murph starting on his WLS days.

His intro fanfare was better on WLS. Anyone remember the name?

I thought the Murph song was too narrasistic and not really matched the show which was Murph and 'Fans talking to fans'.

Always loved his Honeymooners references. Odd and even buses!

Btw why are we talking like the guy is dead?

Because he was low man on the totem pole, Murph seemed to get the trainee producers, updater, etc. IIRC, Julie (Swiecka not Di Caro), Greenie, and even Bernsy were producers on Murph's show. Bernsy's wife may have been a caller to Murph (Bernsy's meeting his wife has some connection to Murph's show)

I can't think of the update guy's name, but he later co-hosted an AM show on the SCORE and went to WGN. His shtick was when someone was fired to say their name and " GOOONNNE". When John Gacy was executed -- he said "Gacy, GOOONNE"

And I have heard it said that it was Murph who convinced the powers that be to give Pappy a shot.

No, Dan's wife wasn't a Murph listener, she had a co-worker who was listening to the HFC when Dan was on the Bears beat and made a joke about wanting to marry a blonde Jew with a degree in English, so this guy faxed the station and set them up.

Though I like your scenario more, imagining a date where she keeps telling him to "say it like he means it."

that's correct murph got north a shot on the score. When murph was on WLS North was doing some bookie 1 hour show down the dial. Can't remember the station but it was a low frequency AM channel.

I agree with the poster who said the callers made the score what it was in the beginning. It was that independent minded Chicago attitude of the callers that made the station so great to listen to. And the hosts were smart enough to realize to play with it and that's why it was a great listen.

I think one guy who doesn't get enough credit is Jiggets. He was the only media establishment guy they had who attracted the most of the ex-bear and current bear players of that time to book as guests.

I wish they would have a true 25th anniversary show after Terry's goodbye is complete. Something in February after the Superbowl would work and they could use it as yet another reason to preempt a Sir show.
