Boers was making $500k and Bernstein likely isn't far behind, but Laurence makes nowhere near that. The inflated salary numbers for him are a board meme.

Dolphin pegged him (if you'll pardon the expression) perfectly.

Sure Boers had a year where he made 500k, then the next few years it was significantly less..North made close to a million a year at one time too..the salaries have nosedived..Bernstein is the highest paid guy at the station at 250k and nobody is even sniffing that. Mac was making more than that for a decade.

Honestly, I'd say at least 150k.

I'd say 100-125, but he has been there for a while, is a willing utility player and is Mitch's guy so he might have bumped him up to your number

Either way, I think he makes nice money for the work and hours. It's not FU money but he and his wife combined probably live a very comfortable existence

I'd be inclined to believe this. He is very willing to fill a slot whenever and wherever and can eat up 3 hours at any time and on just about any
subject. Lawrence is just alright with me. Good for him. Haters gonna hate.

i assume 100-125k in your great city isn't much once you factor in the cost of living. thats like 75-100k here in the sticks.

Holmes had worked with Spiegel as a fill-in co-host for several weeks in 2013, so "I'm pretty sure I was a candidate for the job, but they wanted to go with Danny, and I used to have Danny on my show all the time, so I would be lying if told you I wasn't hurt by it. ... They felt like that was a better match, and I get it."

Ouuuuuch.

Holmes was the best in-house talent primed to take any daypart openings, he wanted to take any new daypart openings, and they went with someone out-of-market. Poor bastard.

If the rumored 3rd sports talker actually starts up this year, I hope he gets a shot at a full boat daytime gig.

Holmes said he would welcome another opportunity to partner with a co-host, but emphasized he doesn't see his solo show as a consolation prize.

"I look at it as the house on the hill," he said. "There's not a lot of people that have that, that are given the responsibility of holding down a radio station by themselves at night, and I relish the opportunity."

Lawrence is the best.

Oh. 120 sports moved to New York. So he no longer has that gig.

He didn't want it when Mac left cuz he had the 120 sports thing. Now he wanted it.

Mitch pretty much told him that he thinks he sucks by not giving it to him.

On the merits, I don't see how Holmes could have lost out to Parkins. Holmes has more experience in a bigger market, has a better sound, a better relationship with his would-be on-air partner, a following of fans in the market, better prep skills, and better working knowledge of current topics and teams. In virtually every aspect of being a sports talk radio host, Holmes bests Parkins, but Mitch decided to go with the lesser talent instead of giving a loyal guy (and better talent) a promotion. I don't get it.

He did some mid day work before Mac and Spiegel and the ratings were not good. That's hard for people to live down in the radio business.

While that may be true, I think it's fair to mention that he was with Dan Hampton, who is less understandable than a jimmyreardon post.

That's true. Though wasn't his partner for that first midday show Dan Hampton? It seems awfully cruel to deny a guy with undeniable talent another shot at a daypart because of a ratings bomb most likely set off by Dan Hampton.

Leery sounds creep and weird on the radio. Definitely doesn't have a better sound. Don't think experience in a big market means anything. If it did, Leery and Spiegel wouldn't be so awful on the radio. Who cares about a better relationship with a guy who's awful and on his way out the door? I don't think Leery had some large contingent of fans. He doesn't have better prep skills - the one thing someone can't criticize Parkins for is lack of preparation. Holmes doesn't have better knowledge of any topics and teams, he just repeats whatever The Score as a station decides the narrative is that day. He doesn't have more talent than Parkins. If even half of what you said is true Parkins wouldn't have the job and we wouldn't be having this back and forth.

I think management has seen/heard enough of Holmes to decide that while he might be good at the roll he is in that he has reached his ceiling. The Hamp and Holmes show was brutal and even if 90% of that is on Hampton it still sticks to you as a host and they probably don't want to go down that road again. Might as well try someone new that fits the profile of what they are looking for. Parkins is fine, maybe find him a host he has some chemistry with instead of whatever the heck is going on with him and Speigs.
