You have probably heard about it, but thought we might as well have a thread. Joe Ostrowski has a promotion on WSCR where he will be doing the scoreboard updates for Mully and Hanley and Spiegs and Parkins. He will also continue to host Hit & Run with Rozner on Sunday. His goal is to be done with the behind the scenes stuff and be on the mic. I wish you the best sir; you have certainly put in your time to get there. Hope it gives you more time to be with your wife and kids. |

Does that explain his roving 3rd-man position this week? Either way, good for him, finally one of the background team is getting a semi-legit shot at being on-air. But I thought they just hired a big-voice guy to do updates for M&H? Is he moving on to bigger and better? |

I remember Ostrowski showing up at Montclare Lanes on Harlem (a moment of silence) to meet the legendary Shark at a CSFMB gathering. He was there with a few other SCORE guys I think. Costanza might remember. He has been at 'SCR for quite a long time. |

Yeah, that's a lot of inconsistent scheduling due to Sox and now Cubs games, preempted programming, rain delays, extra innings, etc. Not ideal for family life. |

If he's going to be doing updates for both M&H and mid-days, then he's not going to be there at 4:30am shooting the shit with Les unless he does 4-11 and Matty does 11-6. It looks like Miss Social Justice is going to be drawing the "sorry, the Cubs are not on tonight" straw and doing evening updates and the 10p-midnight shifts on nights with no ballgame, and the coveted Saturday night slot (a moment of silence for "Me and Z"). Her husband must be thrilled that she won't be around. |

So now they have 3 full time update people. Joe for mornings, Julie for middays and drinky for afternoons. There is now nothing for Zaidman to do in the Bears off season. You're right, Grote now has nothing to do in the Cubs are done. Those two would basically flip during their off seasons. |

Julie has pretty much always been doing the 9-1 midday slot for the last year or so. For years the SCORE had a bunch of part time update boys that would rotate shifts. Except for Grote in the mornings. Now they've settled on 3 full timers I guess. |

I listened to Joe with Rozner for an hour just now on Hit and Run in the car. Actually a good show, with Dziepak doing updates and chiming in occasionally. Most impressive thing is that unlike Matty a couple of years ago, Joe actually prepared for interviews with out of town guests. It helps that he gets to play the foil to Rozner's neuroses such as his fascination with the Mets. |

I thought I heard Joe say today that he was there until 12:30 and then Matty would take over. I don't know if he just meant today, but if I had to guess I'd say my impression was that would be the norm rather than a one-off. So, if that's the case, there's no 'mid-day' place for Julie. Perhaps that's why she got some weekend garbage time for a 'show' - in advance of perhaps moving her away as primarily a stuttering update drone. |

Most of the Score guys on the bench aren't entertaining to listen to. Overall the station has a real problem acquiring new talent. They have a tendency to recycle the same old hosts who never innovate. Usually the guys who are good who work there land elsewhere with a more legitimate gig. |
