I've been doing what I'm doing now for 15 and every so often I walk in the house and tell my wife I'm done with it. Usually I'm pissed off about something that went wrong that day or a big bill I know is coming and I blow it off after a couple days of thinking about it. I'm sure this week I will have a moment of it.. I predict Saturday.

This.

It's really not that rare to just be "done" with a job. Human nature. I imagine this is amplified tenfold when you are a public figure and constantly get berated by listeners.

Yeah, I mean I listed to about half the podcast so he talked about it and it is totally believable. Maybe its because I just see it all the time. Maybe its because Matt and I are close in age (I think he is a touch older but maybe I'm wrong). Maybe its because tons of guys I talk to that are older than me are still wanting to quit but don't see a way out and have to stick to it to support themselves or their families. Or the dreaded, what else am I going to do? I talk to my brother all the time about this and I hear it in his voice how he much he would love to do something else and maybe someday. I think one of the happiest/saddest moments he had was when his wife got her promotion and it was local instead of forcing a move. He was happy to not have to move but I think he saw that move as an easy way to sell out of his share of his group and just not do what he does at the level he does it anymore.

Being mystified by this is just odd.

Of course you're sick of radio after that type of rejection.

But drinky did get promoted. From producer to full time update anchor.

Like I said before, the easy job of doing updates, no pressure, with a 25 hour work week seems better then driving around for 40 hours a week selling vitamins. At least to me. Plus, he even admitted in that podcast he had no idea what he was going to do after he quit. I just find it odd. You're sick of sports and have no idea what you want to do. And he quit his first sales job after 20 days.

How did I know that there would be a nice thread here dedicated to this...actually TWO! I can't believe I'm wasting my time on this but here it goes -

Beardown - it's amusing that you have your trench coat, top hat and magnifying glass out for everything concerning Matt Abbatacola, but choose to look for deeper meaning in EVERYTHING and miss the real, actual, factual details in the things that are said by him out loud. Yes, Matt quit his initial sales job after 20 days. Why? Did you listen? He did 18k in sales in 20 days with basically no training, he was doing great. He then got offered an opportunity that wouldn't make sense to pass up. So...THEN he quit his first sales job after 20 days. Listen to what's actually said and not what floats around your brain about Matt every second of every day. Also - who told you that he will be working 40 hours a week? Where did you hear that? You can find it odd all you want to but here are the FACTS:
- Matt wasn't happy working at the station anymore
- Matt didn't want to live the rest of his life unhappy at the station
- Matt QUIT on great terms with EVERYONE, did NOT want a farewell, and left the station.
- Matt knew there was great opportunity outside of sports radio
- Matt found that
- Matt already has a base salary greater than what he did in 16 years at the station.

Lastly, you should look up these "vitamins" you keep talking about and see how much success the company has had as a one man show....that has now decided to have Matt partner up with him and grow even more.

You and your wild brain have a great day.

Of course he wasn't happy working at the station anymore. He saw the writing on the wall when he didn't get a hosting gig. He knew it was a dead end job. Who wouldn't start looking for a new job after coming to that realization? Just admit it instead of crapping us with "I just got tired of sports".

IG, was Matt's falling out of love with his career a building to a crescendo, or did he just wake up one day and think "I don't want to do this anymore"?

Drinky as James Woods and IG as Sharon Stone from Casino might be more apt

Me too. That is probably harsh.

Its just that it seems like more of a triangle between Drinky, the husband and IG than Drinky, IG, and Drinky's ex

Mr IG sees IG and Drinky coming off the Motel 6 private jet.
IG wobbles a little as she comes down the ramp.

IG
(Waving brightly)
Hi, Mr IG

Mr IG picks AMY up and hugs her, ignoring IG. They walk to
the car and drive off.

INT. Mr IG's CAR - NIGHT

AMY looks on from the back seat.

Mr IG
So, what'd ya do with it?

IG
With what?

Mr IG
With the money.

IG
He needed some clothes.

Mr IG
(Sighs)
Twenty-five thousand for clothes.

IG
He wanted a watch, too.

Mr IG
Twenty-five thousand for clothes and
a watch.

IG
Mm-hm.

Mr IG
Mm-hm.

INT. Hugo's Frog Bar- NIGHT

walk towards a table overlooking the colorful lights of
downtown Vegas.

MAITRE D'
...good evening. Signora.

IG
Gino.

MAITRE D'
This way.

Mr IG Voice over
(as they are led to
their table)
The good part was, I had Amy back.
So, we went home, had the housekeeper
stay over, put the kid to bed, I
calmed myself down and we went to
dinner. I tried to keep things nice
and civil, you know. But... hey,
twenty-five thousand for three suits?
That doesn't make much sense.

Mr IG
(Seated across from
IG at a booth)
First of all, he's not gonna wear f-
thousand-dollar suits. But let's say
he did, which he won't. How you gonna
get fitted for twenty-five suits in
three days? I, um, I mean, how could
you get fitted that fast? I can't
get fitted that fast, and I pay twice
as much.

IG
I bought him a watch too.

Mr IG
Yeah.

IG
Yeah.

Mr IG
But even if you bought him a watch,
a really nice watch, one that he
thought was nice - and he doesn't
know what the fuck a good watch is -
so, you go, five, ten, twelve grand?

IG
Yeah.

Mr IG
At the most, which is impossible for
him.

She glances to the table behind them.

Mr IG
Plus, at the most, three suits, a
thousand apiece. That still leaves
what? Around ten thousand?

IG
(Staring down at her
plate, trying to
restrain herself)
Would you knock it off, Mr IG?

Mr IG
I'm just tryin' to figure it out.

IG
There's nothin' to figure out. I'm
home... we're workin' it out.

She takes a drink of Prosecco

Mr IG
Yeah, but I've been told that before,
'We're workin' it out.' You think
that you're home... after what you
just put me through with Amy, is a
favor to me?

She looks at Mr IG

Mr IG
(Pause)
So, counting the watch, let's say
another four thousand for expenses
over the weekend... of which you
must have had a good time. I know he
did. That's for sure. I know that...
fuckin' piece of shit had a good
fuckin' time. On my money. You might
as well have fucked him, which you
probably did anyway.

IG glares at him.

Mr IG
You're lookin' at me a certain way.
You - you're teary-eyed, huh? You're
upset. You're a good actress, you
know that? Good fuckin' actress.
You can fuckin' get that pity out of
people. I'm not a john, you
understand? You always thought I
was, but I'm not. And I'm not a
sucker. That fuckin' pimp cocksucker.
He's lucky I didn't kill him last
time. Lucky he's fuckin' livin'.

I read it as him selling that amount. Heck, it looks like it was written as such, which really means nothing.

Drinky is not beyond the EGO as we know from his days on air. Please...dont' tell me HE MADE $18,000 in sales in first 20 days. He probably sold $18,000 in product!!! BFD!!

Please...tell me these vitamins are going to save the world!!! 'cause God knows ...there is NOWHERE I can find vitamins!??!?

Drinky did NOT get a slap in the face...when you SUCK at what you do...you DON'T GET PROMOTED!!! Unless of course you're Julie DiCaro which that is some shit I do NOT understand!!!

Oh wow, do you feel better after that outburst?

Where do you work? Are there other companies that do what you do? Or are one who is "saving the world"??

Also, I'm not the one who is saying vitamins. That's Beardown.

I'm glad you "know" Matt from his days in air!

I have known him for over a decade......in person.....which is real life.

How long did his ex wife know him? That was real life too. As it turns out, she didn't know him. She never saw you coming. So real life doesn't matter either.
