He played that stupid 'GO PACK GO' chant like every 5 min of the show last night. It was pretty funny.

I loved when he'd open the show playing "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" from Wizard of Oz whenever the Packers, Cardinals or Red Wings got eliminated.

Parkins & Grote had Les on for the Super Bowl win 35th anniversary. Les has been popping up on shows to repeat old stories. Then the hosts mock him when he leaves.. He retold the story where he gave Jim Belushi a ride to his hotel when they were on the same plane to the game. He's being used as a bit on the shows. P & G then mocked him the next hour for his plane fare scams. Then mocked him for his recently deceased parakeet. Grote asking if he buried the bird in the house? Grote is getty more goofy than usual working abusive split shifts early am than coming back into late afternoon. Les doesn't even get the bit he's being played for a fool. He's being used as a prop like when B & B brought on mentally challenged poor souls to mock and laugh at their unfortunate lives.

Les has always played that straight man roll, all the way back to when he was working with Lujak and Dahl.

i heard that on Les's show last night. He rebroadcast the interview but didnt know they were making fun of him afterwards. but he probably doesn't care. Les is a sports radio legend and doubt any of those guys will even reach half of his level in their careers.

I did not agree though w Les saying the 85 bears were not America's team. They were that year. He was saying they were not in the media. Well the media is different than regular people. Yes, the media outside Chicago wanted that team to lose because they were so in your face.

Then they got into how the packers player who slammed McMahon the following season is now dead. They made fun of him passing away. that was bullshit. what does him playing in the NFL 35 years ago have to do with him dying? it was petty. Then one of the score guys was clueless and thought Les said McMahon died. where did that come from? you would think if Jim Mac died it would be big news in Chicago. that guy was fucking clueless.

This more of a Parkins story, but it fits here too. Yesterday, Parkins was talking about his audition with WSCR in the summer of 2016. He said Mitch wanted to hear him do a local show (vs just listening to his show in KC), so they worked it out where Danny would do Les' show for a week. That way, Parkins' boss in KC wouldn't necessarily know he was looking to move (Parkins said he was willing to take the chance, but never told them he was interviewing or trying out).

The funny thing was when Grote asked Parkins how the shows went...he said they went terribly, since all the callers wanted Les' format of talking about yesteryear. Parkins was trying to drive the show with a discussion of the latest White Sox west coast win, but callers were ripping him, asking "why aren't you doing Bum of the Week?"

i like the grobber - but, that know-it-all attitude, the i-was-there-and-you-weren't-therefore-i'm-always-correct attitude; get's old after a few shows.

i remember chuck swirsky had a sport call-in show on wcfl every night at 7 pm, i believe. at that time, the grobber was on sportphone. when the bears got to a very good and then the top team in league, the only call-in show was after the bears' games on wgn radio. no other outlet to hear others' opinions. wgn had a sunday call-in show after the bears would smash every opponent.

not that i'm a huge fan of swirsky, but swirsky had a bigger sport radio call-in footprint than the grobber. i was a kid in 7th-8th grades and loved the blackhawks and swirsky was the only man on the radio. the grobber hosted a vanilla 30 show with mike tomczak on wls AFTER the super bowl victory.

the grobber's 'mcmahon new orleans women are whores' story has been told to death. "i was there, you were't there". "i know, you don't know". who gives a shit, grobber?

Or when he became B&B's favorite target at the station after Murph was gone. But yeah, hilarious and original bit from Parkins.

The other night Les said where he was broadcasting, in the Score home building, is the same building he went to school. He actually was broadcasting sitting in his own home. It's not an act. He's so disconnected he doesn't know he's not taken seriously.

He told a good story about how his HS was the first to integrate in the city back in the 60s.

I don't think it's an act but I don't think he is disconnected. I think Les knows who he is and is perfectly comfortable with it.

Some classic Les from his last show. Tom obviously knows what the over-under definition is. But, didn't play it (or know the points) in his score prediction. Went right over Les's head.

Les- If you prove to be correct with your pick, it's the over.( caller picked TB 35-31)
Caller Tom- That thought never entered my mind. I didn't know what the over-under was.
Les- I think everybody listening to us knows what the over-under is.
Caller Tom- I know what it is. I didn't follow it. What was the over-under Les?
Les- You just said you know what it is. Thank you for calling, appreciate it. Always got to look for something weird out there, and again he did it today.

Les got a call Friday am from NW side Joe. Again a great call from Joe. He brought up the talk of most championship titles. He took it further to combo coach/manager/player titles. The king is Frankie Crosetti. 17 champions, and 23 American league champions. Found this interesting article on Crosetti's titles, Yankees dominance, and SF italian American Yankees. Joe mentioned he met Crosetti, and corresponded with him. Les of course won't ask Joe what his baseball ties are, cut him off at every turn, then cut the call short. Les seems like he really doesn't like being upstaged by Joe. A small dose of baseball history on the score, which is rare since the Murph days.

R & G asked guest Les today about robot umpires in the minor leagues this year being used. The robot umpires, that will be done from the press box. There's not going to be a robot down there as people were assuming. (Grote in the background). Huh?

Les originally thought Lady Gaga was a Madonna copycat. He and Grote went with their ladies to a LG concert together. Then Les liked her after seeing her in concert.

Les was suffering from temporary insanity last night at 2:20 reading supposedly a Northwestern band chant aimed at Purdue 35 years old.

Noting the Purdue fan people, and the Golden girl. They have a good sense of humor about it. It's done in a good way. I think the way they sing that it's pretty funny. "Where chimpanzees get bachelor's degrees.and the golden girl is straight from the zoo".

Les last night got a call from a disgruntled Cubs fan "Northshore Chuck".

You guys on the Score are much too easy on the Cubs. This is a ownership that's only interested in profit. We've never had owners who are real estate developers that are only worried about who's in their hotel. That buy rooftop owners out on the cheap. And get rid of possibly the best pitcher in the national League. Just let him go for nothing. And Crane Kenney who you guys fawn over when he's on the radio.

Les let the guy talk uninterrupted (highly unusual) for 5 minutes. I'll hand it to Les. He didn't utter one word in the Score or the Cubs defense.

Les definitely gets credit for letting that guy speak. I'd still take the Ricketts ownership over the Tribune Company.....they were pretty awful.
This meatball conveniently lost fact that ownership spends plenty...Theo is the one that handed out the stupid contracts putting them in a position where they had to sell high on Yu. But his point on they daytime hosts being ass-lickers is perfectly valid.

i want to say the tribune became gun-shy after spending $$$ on free-agents danny jackson/dave smith/george bell after the 1990 season. cubs finished under .500 and i believe the tribune just gave up. great hitting line-up...sandberg/grace/bell/dawson/dunston...these guys flopped collectively.

tribune was much better than wrigley - who didn't even attempt to pay anyone and would purposely get rid of young talent before having to pay them - thornton-d. moore-madlock, just from my time as a young fan.
