Pulling out a lot of stops, playing an incredible songlist.

Michael McDermott and Heather Horton surprised him in studio just now.

It's been good. Gonna be weird next week. Milne is good, just different.

That was cool to hear McDermott live this morning. Lin has sounded very depressed since Mary got fired, understandably so -- not that he was a high-energy guy to begin with, but not having someone to bounce off really didn't leave a lot there. Maybe the later shift will revitalize him a bit.

I'm trying to figure out the programming perspective to this. My most cynical reading is that they're punting in mornings: XRT has been top ten in the other three dayparts for a while now (Terri Hemmert was half-ushered out the door with middays in 7th) with Lin being around 15th or so. So they're putting their big name/contract in a daypart that they know has a proven audience and giving Richard Milne the honor of presiding over a morning shift that's been gutted of news and production features. But he could end up doing some cool stuff with it. In the interview with Feder, he names Eno's Before and After Science as his favorite album of all time. Me, I think Another Green World is better by an eyelash, but that's judgment to trust.

The move surprises me. I figured the walls were closing in for Lin when he'd not been showing up in the top ten in mornings (which, to be clear, should not matter one freaking bit for this station) and then they had that Los Lobos concert in his honor. But I thought for a while that Ryan Arnold and Emma Mac would be the ones to become the new standard-bearers and take over for Lin and Terri, respectively. I thought wrong. Now it just feels like they're gonna run the old core into the ground and that'll be the end.

Jesus God, reading Twitter you would think they were pushing him out into Lake Michigan on an ice floe after today's show.

Yeah, the Twitter reaction was a little histrionic. I think a lot of the same people believe the station won't recover from getting rid of Jason Thomas.

I kind of had the fear in the back of my head that he would do middays for a few months and be gone by the end of June but then I read him say it was his choice. Had me fooled.

Interesting. Where did you read him? I'd trust your insight into this business more than my own thoughts. Lin was sounding voice tired this last 6 months. Hard to say if he knew the morning gig had to come to an end due to ratings or contract or if something else was at work. I read the feder piece on Milne. He could be good at mornings for a while. Energy level is definitely high. But at 60 how long does it go? Not everyone can live that JORR lifestyle. You may still see Emma or Ryan anchor mornings some time this decade.

It was deep in the comments of the Feder piece. He personally replied to someone who said he was pushed out to assure us it was his own choice.

Some of his commercial spots welcoming Richard have been downright weird. Don't leave because of the changes...I didn't get it until I remembered I actually ran into Lin at a bar once after I moved here. This was like 96. The bartender treated him like absolute shit and I asked him what that was all about. He was still pissed that Terri got kicked off of mornings. It'd been at least 5 years. I was like WTF? Lin seemed a cool guy. But I get It. One invests sentiment toward someone they hear every day I guess.

Yeah, Lin talked about how Norm Winer was up to his eyeballs in hate mail for replacing Terri Hemmert. Norm should write a book.

For me, a perfect song for sometime Monday is Around the Dial/Kinks. Milne plays it before Lin starts at ten. Somebody get that suggestion out into the world. I have zero Twitter pull. I have zero Twitter.

I'm hoping for something off Before and After Science. "Backwater"? "King's Lead Hat," which is an anagram of Talking Heads?

That'll work too. This is too unique a situation to sit back and do what normal corporate reorgs do.

Nice choice...an underrated song IMO.

That'd work too but more of a screw the man feel and might cause a little blow back.

Anyone been listening? Richard 'Rock Me' Milne is delivering the Lord's music as best one can in 2020. Lin is providing the same quality output. What's interesting is they seem to be getting a couple extra DJ song selections each hour. Good clean stuff.

Now they are also doing crosstalk at 10 and 2:30. The verdict is still out on this nuance but I applaud the effort. What say you?
Give it a listen, especially now before they are forced to change playlists.

Doing transition is a good idea and I'm surprised they hadn't done it before.

That Teskey Brothers song has skyrocketed to the top of the George Ezra Memorial Stop Playing This Shit list.

We'll played TS. Inaccurate, but we'll played. Give em 30 more minutes.
And yes CH, there are still imperfections to live with. But I have to. I have to look at myself and realize I'm always gonna be a radio guy.
The crosstalk is such a pleasant change from 670. They get along. No contrived or real argument needs to be created to talk about a topic. Just a little talk. What a concept.

I've heard good things about their morning show but haven't listened.

I really regret that I was not able to get into WFMU at a formative age.

Heard "Dr. Wu" at 9 this morning, introed as arguably Steely Dan's best song, which is something I've always felt. Segued perfectly into "Virtual Insanity," too. Very cool. More of this, less lovelytheband.
