Nice start to a Hanley-Huebn
er pairing kept me listening after the Score went to college basketball. (Ugh) Hanley sounds good. He criticized his headphone set up saying "What is this, amateur hour?"

Can't listen to Fred, he's brutal. He's been on ESPN way too much the last six months.. I'm 90% satellite radio but when I go local it's ESPN.

Agree completely about Huebner.

I thought Hanley was supposed to be on with Pat Boyle?

Hanley does 1 hour of Hockey with Boyle then works with Huebner on Saturday morning show.

It was something different, so that alone made it okay.

Well...I guess Hanley is finished with Heubner?

From Feder:

Mark Zander, longtime Chicago radio rocker, is joining Good Karma Brands ESPN sports/talk WMVP 1000-AM as a part-time and weekend host. Starting February 22, he’ll be on with Fred Huebner from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Calling Zander “a veteran on-air talent and program director,” Mike Thomas, market manager for ESPN Chicago, said: “Just because he’s never done sports radio shouldn’t preclude him from talking about the teams he loves. He will be a great addition to the ESPN 1000 on-air team.” Zander most recently was operations manager of Mid-West Family Broadcasting active rock WXRX 104.9-FM and sports/talk WNTA 1330-AM in Rockford. Earlier he was program director of Weigel Broadcasting’s soft rock/oldies WRME 87.7-FM and weekend host at Hubbard Radio classic hits WDRV 97.1-FM.

Every time I hear Huebner's voice it brings back memories of the strange days that were the Mike North morning show which pretty much ended Pappys career.

that guy's ego pretty much destroyed the station

He was making 1.5 million talking sports. He saw Rush making 20 million talking politics and decided he was just as good as him.

He annually brings up his life being made into a movie. It would be incomplete without telling how he weaseled the breakup of Monsters and HFC, disasterously tried to change the station to general talk and then he lied to all those people to bring them over to webio.

Well, that didnt last long.

I have a feeling Hanley may take over De Falco's spot when Carmen's contract is up this Spring.

I remember Zander doing overnights on the Loop like twenty years ago. No relation to Robin, I'm sure.

see, for me it meant Murph wasn't talking, which was good....but that was the old morning show.

but that all got erased by North, agreed.

Gotta be strange working in the radio industry, most places you go up the salary scale, but in radio there is no way they will ever make as much as people did 15-20 years ago.

I'm really enjoying Fred's weekend mornings show. Good podcast on long drives. Sports & light topics. I've always liked Fred's laid back style. Though, was never a lapdog to opinionated, cantankerous diva Murph. Zander grows on you, and Hanley adds a lot.

Fred talks a lot about his life. Cancer survivor mentioning heart meds too. Glad to hear his health now is good even with all his beloved beer. Talks a lot about his beloved fiance. Sounds like a wonderful black women. Building a new house so he must of invested his dough wisely.

Months back he talked about reading a kids version history of hip-hop music to a very young grandkid of hers. That seemed a little bizarre.

Also Fred is a nice Bears postgame alternative now that Mully, and Herron made their way on to the Score's.

hanley adds a lot? ok, cub and hawk fan. great.

never took a side on anything and would wait for results before picking the winning side and then proudly scold an imaginary antagonist; "how's that working out for you now?" his famous line, "how's that working out for you now". mr. hindsight.

only early AM host i ever liked on the score was memolo. not even a chicagoan, i never felt his heart was into chicago sports, but still did a good job. professional.

really miss murph especially this past baseball season. Fred is a good guy and was very loyal to Murph even though I'm sure Murph got on his nerves. Will give the show a shot.

Memolo still lives in the Chicago suburbs somewhere. I just heard him for a few minutes on MLB Network Radio this afternoon talking about cashing in an Ohtani MVP futures bet via one of the Illinois casinos' online apps. He may have been from NYC originally, but he never left once he got here.

He's also a pretty decent host when he sticks to baseball and has a good co-host. He and Steve Sax are very good when they are on together.

Fred was the ultimate lapdog to both Murph AND North in mornings. He was supposed to be a co equal with Murph balancing out Murph's Cubbie chubby with Sox talk. It never worked out that way. His favorite line with North was "you are absolutely correct". I kind of understand. Fred could have never hoped to be a drive time host on his life, but he was able to last for about a decade doing mornings on two different shows, as long as he agreed with everything the hosts said.

I like Fred now.

I don't think I've ever intentionally stopped listening to a Score or am1000 host until the sjw's slithered into the Score.

I never felt that he contributed to anything on the station and what wasn't milquetoast was weird.

The weirdness was kind of amusing though. I enjoyed North and Annie (I can't believe I just typed that) making fun of Fred's grumpiness. Remember how he hated those roadside memorials left by the family of an accident victim?

Between being so upset by those and his odd annual trips to the state basketball finals with "his guys". The perpetual grumpiness seemed absolutely curious for a guy getting paid to take up space.

North show in 2007 was just

"I mean da prollem is da blacks! Even da udder blacks, y'know da good ones, dey don't like da udder kind, like Chris Rock says."
"That's absolutely right, Mike"

i was always going to be partial to fred because he's a self-proclaimed 'soccer-guy'.

not a big fan of mls, but fred would find 40 seconds to talk about the germany NT during a world cup or euro. fine with me.

I say this as someone who sort of likes soccer (and attended a Sting game at Comiskey back in the day) - soccer people are about one step above fantasy football talkers.

Fantasy sports is about the fastest way to get me to push the button. Probably just behind when a paid segment of bullshit (The sports book owner the other day that was on the afternoon show for example. Good lord, I don't need a 5 minute advertisement.).

What is funny is that North believes a movie about his life would be an uplifting Everyman overcoming the odds story. That would be part of the movie, but the last 1/3 would turn to the real genre of the movie - a tragedy. The Everyman who had it all was undone by hubris and took a lot of hard working people down with him. North wouldn’t like how the movie would run.
