Gordon Wittenmyer, Chicago Cubs beat writer for Sun-Times since 2007, is leaving to join NBC Sports Chicago. Starting in early March, he’ll become the new Cubs Insider for the regional sports network. With a week to go before the start of spring training, the Sun-Times posted an opening Friday for Wittenmyer’s position. He’s expected to continue as a contributor to Entercom sports/talk WSCR 670-AM.

hmm, so nbc sports chicago is still going to do cubs content?

i guess using the less personable but equally as jaded/cranky version of joe cowley is one way to cover the team that left your network

That has to be an awful gig. Any meaningful story/etc they will funnel to the Marquee reporter first.

No Bob.

They will get the meaningless stories first along with the softball interviews that Parkins and Bernstein once received.

Wittenmyer always sounds like he either just woke up or he's wasted. Actually, when I hear him, the first thing I think of is that one crazy Bernie Kosar interview.

Wittenmyer pauses oddly, too. I heard Mully interviewing him once and I wanted to reach through the radio and strangle them both.
