You probably have to attribute some of the decline to North’s program dying. That morning show was pretty bad.

But Bernsie changed the tone of the station to a way too serious and politically correct entity. He took away the joy of cheering for a regular season game or getting excited about a division title. And god forbid you cheer for your university because the NCAA is evil.

I am still amazed with what happened to Goff. As a third wheel, he used to make me laugh all the time. Then he partners with Bernstein and becomes unlistenable.

The thing with Bernstein for me started well before Penn State. He ruined WYC with all of his rules, stipulations, texts and ECraps. That was the first thing that I noticed. Then he began to condescend and talk down to people that happened to be hardcore sports fans. He oftened questioned why they cared so much. Then he ushered in all of the "really smart fan" Sabermetrics stuff. Then it was 'only championships matter" stuff. Can't talk about sports unless you incorporate that into the conversation. Then he started shilling for ownership.

His influence definitely pervaded the station. Not necessarily in a good way either..

This is all true. I remember he would have long speeches talking about how buying a conference championship hat or shirt was really stupid.

Heaven forbid being a fan who, you know, enjoys watching a non championship team from time to time. Hell, it’s fun watching on the upswing sometimes anyways.

Yeah. I enjoyed the journey almost as much as I did the actual arrival in most cases. Sometimes more actually.

He became unlistenable before he got partnered with Bernsie. That just solidified it. He got entitled really quick. His shows in the evening and when he would fill in at times were really fun. Then he got a full time spot and it went to his head quickly. Then he got with Bernsie and he truly thought he was untouchable. It is sad because he could still be on the station doing good work.

Yeah, it was when he went to Atlanta that he became a total jag. By the time he returned to partner with Spiegel, he was already PTFB radio

In today's Feder radio ratings. One more nail in the Score's coffin. Not surprising, lower ratings. No top tens.

Seeing where ad revenue is dropping everywhere and they don't expect it to pick up for the next few months. Work in a non Covid hot spot health system and we have have started doing 8 week furloughs and mandatory days off for staff even RN's, can only imagine how a declining business like AM radio looks like when this is over.

What did you expect? There's no sports. Of course the ratings will be down. Has nothing to do with The Score. Did any sports stations across the country increase in ratings? EDIT/ADDITION: All top 10 market sports stations either remained the same or decreased. (NY, LA, CHI, DAL, SF, HOU, DC, ATL, PHI, BOS).

Outside of NY/LA/CHI, I could see many AM news, news/talk, and sports stations only having one station at this time next year.

The Score trounces ESPN 1000 regularly. But say Entercom goes belly up. But ESPN 1000 survives. They get the Cubs and Bulls. They bring over quality Score guys like Mac and Hub, Bear's postgame joining McMichael. All the Score's liberal, sjw trash are on the street. ESPN 1000 now is the king of the hill. It's a win-win for Chicago.

Someone else would buy those stations before they folded.

Forgot about the Scott's Pet Shop spots, almost seemed Little Guys and Scott's Pet Shop ads ran every break during the early days of the Monsters.

I remember driving by it once and almost pulling in back in mid 90s I think. Kinda looked like a dump if my memory serves. Either that or I was with the future Mrs Squirrel. Fuck that was a long time ago.

Satellite radio is so much better it was only a matter of time.

Almost wonder if North sold some of those himself? For some reason remember there were almost no ads during the first few weeks of the Shaer show and he would have to beg for calls or kibbitz with the news guy to fill time. It seemed there were a few show specific ads in the early days, the only one they seem to have now is for the deli that Bruce Levine live reads during the weekend shows.

ESPN 1000 still doesn't have a local morning show. Why? People turn on Mully and Haugh and never change back.

The Score went from 2.7 to 2.5 in a period without any sports. Shocking. Also, as I’ve said many times before - Feder only lists ages 6+. That is not the demo WSCR targets. Otherwise that was very insightful.

Not sure how to view this. There are no sports which drives ratings and many people are not driving to work. On the other hand many people are home and could easily listen. 2.7 to 2.5 in these times seems like a win to me.

Do podcast downloads count for ratings? I am guessing no.

Yeah the Score is thriving with declining listeners and revenue, layoffs, paycuts, and an owner about to go under.

If Entercom goes bankrupt, it will easily reorganize. I doubt they would even sell individual stations. Sure they have an immediate cash flow issue given the shutdown. But their properties are valuable. Their main problem is debt, not the business model. Chapter 11 will simply turn the company over to the creditors, and it will emerge in a stronger financial position.

Company's too big for its own good. Why should one company own 235 radio stations? There's no one else who wanted to buy a couple radio stations, it had to be Entercom buying all of them with money they didn't have?

Down 78% year-to-date. All is good.

There is often a 1 month lag or so between the end of the ratings cycle and when Feder reports so sports was still ongoing for most of that period. It's the next book that is going to be a disaster for them
