Remember when the Loop had that guy named "Maxwell" who was like a second-rate version of Mancow? I think they ended up replacing him with the actual Mancow, who himself has gone from a second-rate Stern to a second-rate Alex Jones.

Mancow has had a weird last few years. It's pretty clear he was taken in by the disgraced Harvest pastor and donated a bunch to the church. Mancow then helped to take the guy down by providing intel to law enforcement, and wrote some articles for the Daily Herald chronicling his good deeds.

I remember when he was feuding with Stern in the 90s, and someone made a video of a guy dressed like Stern digging up Mancow's dead father to skull fuck him. Mancow went from big enough for Stern to have contempt for to trying to revive his career by telling his story of being taken by a grifter mega-church pastor.

I used to listen to James McDonald’s sermons on Fridays on 90.1 (now it’s Mark Jobe), and I can’t say I was surprised by what he was accused of doing but his sermons were pretty entertaining. He came off as sincere til I found out what he looked like.

He was no Alistair Begg but I enjoyed his sermons back in the day. I too was surprised by how McDonald looked.

Brian Paruch was pretty good on the Score, as I remember...or maybe as I misremember

Did Pete McMurray point at him, too?

Or when WCKG tried replacing Stern with "Rover" who was also like a second-rate Mancow? That lasted what, 10 months and eventually sank the whole station.

Oh God, Free FM. I don't think they went straight from Stern to Rover, though. I think Free FM was supposed to be built around Opie & Anthony, but then they went satellite too. I think Rover was a network show out of Cleveland. It's one thing to take programming from New York, but Cleveland? What an indignity.

I think the whole Free FM debacle got a high-ranking CBS executive fired. Joel Hollander?

IIRC Rover is a Chicago native and they tried to make a big deal about that and had him syndicating from here. Then he had to go back to Cleveland with his tail between his legs.

I remember that Hollander guy was interviewed by Feder right before or after he was fired and said something like "at least I had the balls to make moves!"

I thought Stern was replaced by David Lee Roth in most of his markets and Rover in a smaller but significant group of stations

Carolla was a portion of it, too

It was a regional split, I think: the west coast got Corolla, east coast got DLR, and Midwest got stuck with Rover. At least the other two are names and not Generic Morning Zoo Guy.

Yeah your breakdown is correct. all three flopped and sank many stations around the country that had done great with Stern.

I'd like to see him replaced with a Mac and North morning zoo variety show. That would be appointment radio.
